Lexus Plans Branded Broadband Video Channel

Lexus Plans Branded Broadband Video Channel
Lexus is gearing up to launch a broadband video channel targeting imminent and casual car buyers.

The branded offering, due to go live this summer, will carry short-form series about art, architecture, fashion, technology and eco-friendly living—along with more predictable fare such as automotive tips.

Overall, the channel is being designed to create "a parallel with the character of the brand," according to Lexus national interactive and contextual marketing manager Brian Bolain.

I'd watch almost anything instead of SoapNet. Unless of course it was a Spanish channel.

Not bad...

It only took Lexus 18 months to release a variation of the Audi Channel!

You got to admit these guys are getting faster at taking good ideas. Now what is next? A Podcast?

The next level should be to have the entire Lexus line
of cars go on an anti-bloating diet.

Have you seen how bloated the LS460 is??

^It still isn't as bloated and useless as you are.

why are car companies going into television and print media. I get a copy of that stupid Lexus mag sent to my house and i just end up recycling it. When I want to buy a car, that stupid mag does not help me make my mind. Plus, the mag just covers housing, vacation planning, furniture, etc... it has nothing to do with Lexus

A car company should focus on what it is best at, CARS

Well the car companies like Lexus and Audi want us to believe that their products are a conscious lifestyle choice.

"I am successful and I am smart, so I deserve brand A". Since we all believe we have made the right choice in vehicle to begin with, the positive branding reinforces the decision, and in turn the hope is that we will be loyal and buy another..

Plus if they are sponsoring the media anyway, and it is targeted to a core demographic. Then it makes sense to bring all of that programming to a channel and attract that clientele and bombard them with more advertising.

The TV Channel concept evidently has some merit because Audi first did it (to my knowledge) and Lexus is the second to follow. I also have heard grumblings that others will soon follow. Who knows, maybe you will see Lexus bicycles (Audi already has them), Lexus Home Theatre, and other branded item spawn off of this type of marketing.

Lets just hope we avoid “Tundra” condoms.

The Lexus magazine is more of 'lifestyle' periodical that showcases activities and events that many of the owners take part in, thus it isn't trying to sell cars. I remember Chevron distributing a travelogue back in the late 1980s that was similar in concept to the Lexus magazine.

Man I feel sorry for you. I'm so lucky that I never get any mail that I'm not interested in. Just bear with it and perhaps this horrible inconvenience in your life will soon pass.

I got my Audi magazine today. I have to admit, it's a very high-quality, stylish magazine. Much more formal than it used to be, and yes, it is about "lifestyle" in general.

that's just NORMAL modern marketing. keeping the brand visible, whether you're in the market or not.

when you ARE ready to buy, the brand more readily rises to your awareness, after lurking there subconsciously all that time.

Well, they would not be the only car company that does so.
