2011 Audi R4: Audi looks to expand the R Line after Audi R8 success

The R8 is declared a success already without it selling one car, more audi autospies bias, which is ok by my audi needs all the help it can get.

You'r wrong, all R8's which are to be built for this year are allready sold out. In Europe that is. Don't know if they are taking orders in the america.

how many coupe models does Audi need??? They have the coupe A5 coming already, they have the TT, now they're going to come out with another coupe in the same pricerange? If anything what they need is something in the 6-series/XK8 range, not another $40-50k coupe they already have two of.

What are you talking about...the R8 will be around $100k, the TT Pricing..just announced will start at $35K and change...and no pricing has been announced...even rough..for the A5. All are different sizes. The TT and A4 Cab depending on configuration may overlap a bit pricewise, but they are totally different rides. I do not count more "coupes" than MBZ has.

I agree. An XK/6/SL competitor would be pretty sweet.

If anything, this R4 would be more of a Cayman S competitor, because the TT still isn't quite as sporty.

sold out, with out a price set for the U.S. evil homer your a audi salesman maybe you know the price,( May guess 120k) but I haven't see any brochures at the collection in Miami, however, the R8 is a great car, I might consider getting one, but you audi fans are over zealous on the Audi brand , how exciting can one get about a brand so similar to Volkwagen, and that is not a famous brand in the U.S. You can get the same Audi engine choice in VW cars, like the 2.0 Turbo etc. I know the U.S. is only on country but all the successful automakers sell the bulk of there products in the U.S. ( Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Bentley cars north of 100k). Acura , Jaguar, Porsche has made great mid-engined sports cars that was not based on anything else but did the hype that the R8 gets.

Let me tell you something, so that you never, ever say anything like that again: as hard as it is for you to understand, AUDI IS NOT SO SIMILAR TO VOLKSWAGEN. If you drove a VW and then an Audi, even with the same engine, you'd notice a big difference. I mean, seriously, nobody ever talks about Chrysler and Mercedes, but they share engines. They're still not so similar! Audi does not = VW. They never have, and they never will. If anything, Porsche will end up buying Audi, Bugatti, Bentley and Lamborghini in a bundle.

Audi has finally produced a car to go head-to-head with the truly performance oriented cars.

The R8 offers comfort that can't be found in the raw feeling 911 and is more composed than the rear-end whipping F430.

Consider it the comfortable and controllable everyday sports car.

Obviously the reason Audi is offering different size coupes is because Daimler/Chrysler and BMW are. But Audi has now one upped them with the R8. The only issue now is that Porsche owns 27% of VW and soon to own 29%. Being that the R8 is priced close to a 911 will it not canabolize sales?

Audi will only make about 4,000 R8s a year, far from hurting 911 sales.

The 911 doesn't really sell that well, either. I mean- it sells WELL, for the price -but it by no means sells a ridiculous amount a year. I'm pretty sure they sell about 10,000-20,000 911s a year.

I really don't see Audi producing the R4 or an R6 for that matter. There is simply not enough of a market to produce such a product. The R8 is a real halo car that Audi needs to bump the image of the entire line. I see them expanding that car with additional engines and most likely a spider version but that's about it.

There hasn't been much mentioned on here or anywhere else for that matter about the A7 platform. Auto Bild ran something on it not long ago but there really hasn't been much out there recently. I believe the car is fairly well along in development. It's not going to be a huge performance icon but it will be a fairly glamorous car to "arrive" in. From what I understand, it will be a pillarless four door sedan and convertible with suicide doors that butterfly open! It's primary competition will be the MB CLS as a sedan but the convertible will have no competition unless the MB "Ocean Drive" is released in time. Does anyone else have anything more on this car?

No, I'm pretty sure it will be a more "conventional" (if you can use that word in this context) four-door coupe, with rear-facing doors and no convertible version.

I had hoped that the A7 would be a 6 Series/XK competitor, but perhaps an A9 is in the works, as their luxury GT?
