Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe sells for $2 million!

The first US bound Roll-Royce Drophead coupe just sold for $2 million at the annual Naples Winter Wine Festival auction. Raymond Lutgert, founder of Lutgert Cos. development firm raised his paddle to huge applause as he smashed the previous single bid record of $1.2 million. His $2 million purchase will ensure he is the only owner of a Rolls-Royce Drophead coupe in the US, at least until this summer when the luxury convertible goes on sale for $407,000. Other high bids include $1.3 million for a Bentley GTC, $790,000 for a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte, and $280,000 for the new Lexus LS 600H L Luxury Hybrid sedan.

What a waste of money! If it were me I'd have a serious case of buyers remorse 4-5 months from now after the rolls drop-top fully hits the streets.

How the hell do people like this guy become so filthy rich when they just throw their money out the window like this...I hope he can retire in his Rolls after declaring bankruptcy.

Wait wouldn't this be a collectors car since someone paid 2 million for it. It may be worth a lot for a while - even though that there will be cheaper versions.

Rob, when youre driving down Canon Drive and crossing Little Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills; can't you imagine driving the RR Drophead Coupe and getting all those stares from the tourist from Iowa with their ballcaps spinnin' a full 360?

Unless the proceeds are going to a good charity, I think its stupid.

I don't get people who buy cars so other people will look at them - they must have inferiority complexes (didn't make the football team in Highschool or something)

I buy cars for my own enjoyment, not to catch someone else's stare.

BMW740Z4, I am a SoCal REALTOR® and in dealing with extremely rich people they ordinarily pay cash for such things as cars, Rolex watches and homes.

I have a friend that is the most succesful agent in SoCal and he has told me the same thing.

Cheack out his website and see some of the 20, 30 and 75 million dollar homes that overlook the Pacific ocean.

it was a charity auction. all proceeds go to charity. and the winner of the auction gets a tax deduction equal to the amount paid over the sticker price of the car. wealthy people aren't so stupid after all.

The buyer could have waited a few months, purchased one, saved $1.5 million and donated the rest to charity. This is a great example of someone having more money than brains.

Wow, that guy should've waited and bought four or five. I mean, his cars would still be collectible, because they'd be one of those owned by "that guy who bought five Rolls-Royces."
