Halo Car? Is a Honda S2000 Type-R On The Horizon?
Will Honda release a S2000 R-Type?

Sources over at V-Tec.net indicate that the S2000 might go out of production in 2008 in style with a R-Type derivative. Originally conceived in 2004 the R-Type would have more horsepower and less weight for added punch and align more effectively with the Mazdaspeed Miata.

Inside sources indicate the original specs from the 2004 proposal are:

-target of 100kg weight reduction
-balanced engine internals (Type R treatment)
-Type R exclusive interior
-air conditioning becomes a factory option
-SRS air bag becomes a factory option
-sound deadening material deleted
-front tire: 205/55R16 to 205/45R17 (implemented on AP2)
-rear tire: 225/50R16 to 245/40R17 (implemented on AP2)
-Type R exclusive suspension tuning
-Type R exclusive uprated brakes
-Type R exclusive body color(s)
-spare tire deleted
-mechanical LSD
-power soft top deleted
-lightweight carbon hard top
-audio becomes factory option

If we see this derivative at all, it will have to be sooner rather than later due to the phasing out of the model in March of 2008. But the biggest question really should be, does Honda really need a halo car?

align it with a MazdaSpeed MX5? that is total BS! the regular S2000 beats the hell out of the MX5 in any shape or form! i'm not saying the MX5 is crap, but come on! the S2000 gives the Boxster S a run for it's money at half the price!

And don't forget even the BMW Z got its ass kicked.

The MX5 is out of class when compares to this car.

That agent009, talk so much bs.

If anything, Honda is doing it to kick the big boys like Porsha, BMW and put that SC Lex to shame.(what an ugly looking luxury car is that SC.)

What does the butt-ugly SC, or JD Power (your only defense to the obviously horrible car), have to do with the Honda S2000? As if Honda doesn't have amazing reliability ratings, too?

Indeed, what happened to small 6 cylinder engines? There is only so much torque they can squeeze out of that 4-banger.

Torque is there but at 6000 rpm thanks to VTec. So much for slipping the clutch and getting a solid launch at a stoplight.

The S2000, sadly, is dying a slow, painful death. This won't happen.

Long live the king!

An S2K type R should give the big boys at Porsche and BMW something to think about. It would be thousands less than them too!
