Report: Volvo Working On Mercedes R-Class Rival?

I think this model will sell well. Volvo's wagons are very popular and making a bigger version that seats 6 or 7, would be the way to go. People who have Volvo and need more space would buy this model for sure.

It's gunna be tough for Volvo to build a vehicle as good as the R-Class, but I'm sure it will be a safe one.

Is 'good' shorthand for 'stylistic abomination'?

I hate this class of cars. Just too ugly and unpractical for me.

Here is a question: Has anyone who has been posting all the negative comments about the R-class actually driven one? I highly doubt that. I'm tired of reading these posts and seeing people bash the car left and right. My wife personally owns one. Lets say that for the money you can't get any better vehicle that's available out there. Granted that DaimlerChrysler is offering huge rebates on the car, it's still one great vehicle. It's comfortable, has plenty of power, can customize it with many popular options available on higher-end mercedes and is certainly easy on the wallet. Show me one car out there that you can get with panoramic sunroof, harmon kardon stereo, automatic trunk closer, rear center console, seat warmers in front and back, parking sensors, automatic tilt away steering wheel, self closing mirrors, and an optional color which by the way makes the car look great in dark blue, all for 450 a month with taxes in the payment for 27 months with no money down except inception fees. If you pick out the right color combination, it certainly doesn't look half-bad at all. I certainly like it over some of the pokeman look-a-likes that competitors offer. Case and point is that it's a great car for the money and mine has certainly been more reliable than that 80 grand Audi parked outside. In fact, over the course of the year that we've had it, hasn't been in the service department once. Ohh and I'm very attentive to minor details and wouldn't hesitate to take it for service if I heard even a minor squeek comming from somewhere. Before everybody starts deboosting after this comment, I've owned other Audi, Mercedes, and BMW products and certainly don't hold a grudge or single anyone out. So before commenting, go test drive one and get back to me. Nobody and I guarantee nobody will be dissapointed.

An R-Class rival? The R Class is a van without sliding doors. The VCC is a wagon, arguably the mainstay of the Volvo brand. So Volvo is building... another Volvo... which could be potentially cool if they kept the glass roof, the suicide doors and offered something better than the usual T5 motor; but that’s a lofty wish list.

Haven't BMW, Volvo and the rest looking for R-Class competitors realized what a bad idea it is?

Mercedes is giving these away for half the price. It's not a van, it's not an SUV, it's not a wagon, it's not a sedan; it's a nothing. I don't think these carmakers need a "nothing" in their lineup.

Oh and, that concept is very old.

I dont think this car has a market.... its somewhere between an SUV and a mini van.
