Acura Rethinks the NSX with Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept

Acura unveiled the anticipated Advanced Sports Car Concept at the Detroit Auto Show where the company stated that the car is a “dynamically styled concept which provides a preview of the design direction for the successor to the Acura NSX.” However, the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept isn’t a direct replacement to the NSX. The beloved Acura NSX that launched in the 1990 was a mid-engine car that made Ferrari shake in its boots because of its better handling and reliability. Honda even lost money on the original NSX.

Now the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept is no mid-engine car and will greatly reduce cost for Honda in its production version. If the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept is what the next NSX will be, the car will have a powerful V10 front engine and rear-wheel-drive based version of Acura’s exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™. The production version of the car will arrive in the 2009 model year.

Aw i'm disappointed that it wont be a mid-engined based car. Regardless of the V10 it may have, placing it on the front end would defeat it's purpose of it being a hyper car. In my opinion, the NSX was Acura's version of a Japanese super car. It was unique and eye catching like one should be. Performance was 0-60 it was rouhgly 5.2-5.4 seconds unlike the NSX's in Japan where they can reach 60mph in less than 4 seconds. However the exact specs and model types i'm not too familiar.

Anyways, the design looks good to go. How trimmed down the production model will be is yet to be seen. From what I see in the picture it may look to be roughly the same size as an XKR.

1991-1996 NSX 270hp 0-60 5.2sec
1997-on NSX 290hp 0-60 4.8sec (C&D)
NSX-R (weight-reduction) in Japan 0-60 4.5sec
Unless supercharged or turbo was added aftermarket, no NSX I knew can make it below 4sec, Japan or US.

Kinda sad it is no longer light, nimble and mid engine...

Seems to me that the R8 is kind of the NSX reincarnate. Except it too has AWD, looks more exotic and is $30,000 more epxensive.

If the NSX isn't mid engined and rear wheel drive it isn't an NSX. Honda should rename the car. In that car segment I would buy an Audi R8 anyday over the NSX or the Advanced Sports Concept.

EL34, the only person that need to lose weight is probably you. If you don't like the Lexus LS460/600 hl, don't look at it than. If you want to about ugly car, goe to a GM dealer. Not like if you could the LS460 anyway;)

i think its just a urban myth theyll build the next gen nsx. i think ive been hearing about the next gen since early 1990's.

For that, there's the Lexus SUVs, and the LS and ES. And the SC. And the GS.
