So in the top 10 we have 1,799,285 gas guzzlers that don't pay the gas guzzler tax even tough they all get under 22.5 MPG (that makes "cars" pay a gas guzzler tax)

We have 2,125,625 vehicles (sedans) that get decent fuel economy. This is better as in previous years there were more "trucks" on the top 10.

Still about 46% of the vehicles in the top 10 are gas guzzlers that don't pay the gas guzzler tax.

The Cobalt isn't as horrible as you might think. It's pretty decent for an American car. The value is great and it doesn't drive too badly. Had the opportunity to drive one and it was surprisingly decent. Of course the competition might have the details better worked out like interior quality etc., but the Cobalt is pretty good for what it is.

No, actually the Cobalt is bad. They're expensive and not as nice as the competition. In fact, they don't sell where I live. But that could be because the Honda/Toyota dealership is right across the street, though.

jt16, I couldn't agree more with you. Buying a Cobalt is pretty much buying one of those Korean cars, cause their engines aren't made by GMC, they're made by Kia. LOL

Actually Cobalt is not expensive. The ONLY reason people only buy it because it's dirt cheap (especially if you include the 50% discounts GM offers for these crap).

Both the Ford Focus and Ford Explorer are of the list, while the F - series is seriously down from last year. Ouch, no wonder why they are hurting so bad.

I feel that all of those gas guzling machines should pay gas guzzler tax. If someone has to pay it for a bg luxury car or sports car then so should they. Most trucks don't even see a gravel road. Most SUV's never carry more than 2 people. people buy them for image. We (Americans) are so wasteful. We use more fuel than any other country. We consume about 25% of the total amount of oil the world uses. I like trucks too, but unless you actually use it to work, I feel you should have to paya gas guzzler tax. Imagine how much money the Government would make taxing every Ford F-150 not to mention when you add everyone else in. I feel Either everyone should pay or no-one pays the tax.

Absolutely agree. Finally some common sense. The current gas guzzler tax probably is applied to only about 50,000 vehicles or sell each year. BUT about 8 MILLION SUVs and pickups get the same/worse fuel economy but get free passes. And most pickups tow&haul air and like you said SUVs move 1 person on the highway on their way to a cubicle.

Most truck dont see gravel road but do see 4x8 sheets of lumber or 4x12 sheets of rock. Or, pallets of tile or gravel or topsoil or 2x4s or... the list goes on and on. The F-150 isnt the best selling vehicle in the world because it's an image. It's the best selling vehicle in the world because people buy them to make a living. People can make a cases for sprinter vans (and very good cases) or small trucks but the reality of it is our economy is built around standardized products. Hence, as a purpose built vehicle, I can understand their guzzle tax exempt status. I would however, make the case that SUV's were designed and sold as minivan alternatives. I see no difference in the luxury of a sports car, big sedan or SUV, they're all in excess of one's needs and hence should be charged equally if taxed at all.

Oh yeah the cobalt and impala sux. GM is Garbage. How do I know? I am a mechanic and we get more GM vehicles that all others combined, and they all have serious electrical problems. and the plastic intake manifolds on the 3800 v6 crack and break all of the time. we replace them alot. and when they do have problems, it is always so hard to diagnose. GM cars ride on ancient , outdated chasis, and why the hell would anyone want to even attempt to put variable valve timing on a pushrod engine? all their engines are noisy, harsh and amazingly un-refined. Meanwhile the imports maks such smooth and balanced 6 cylinders. It amazes me. thats why the American car companies and going to crap. and whats sad is they are realy improving, but its a little too late. They took way to long to address while the competition continiued to advance.

No, see? There's a Nissan on there, and two Toyotas, and two Hondas! Japanese cars are half the list- it's hard to miss.

We aleady saw them, so yes, we can.

....So why the hell is Ford so broke? I mean think about this: You are a company in competition with a limited number other companies. Your product consistently sells more units than any other competitors' product, yet you are the biggest failure financially among all of them. Does this make sense? Of course I realize "cost vs profit" and the "total number of units of all products sold" (in which GM is the winner) are the main factors, but still. You consistently win but are still a loser?
