Yes but lok at the price difference. The Audi at $120,000 and the 911 at $82,000. That's nearly a $40 grand difference! Is the Audi $40 grand better than a base 911 C4. I don't think so. I also don't think that Porsche needs to be worry too much.

Agree, I was hoping that the Audi would put downward price pressure on Porsche 911s but it doesn't look like it will, if it comes to market $40k higher than an equivalent Porsche.

Well, remember that the $82K Porsche doesn't even give you leather power seats or electric mirrors. The average Carrera 4 or Carrera S comes out-the-door at $95-100K, and the R8's larger engine/exotic looks make up for the remaining difference IMO.

yes the C4S is a better fight but I think Audi would win, Most Porsches will have 15 to 20 k of options and the Audi will come almost loaded for that price ($110,000)

What you fail to understand here is that you normally don't purchase a base 911. Anyone who has built one one line knows that options on a 911 are very expensive and can easily push the price of the car over the 100K mark and beyond. A typical 911 Carrera 4S at the Porsche store I visit is around $105-115K with options and its not a long list.

I would expect a $120K car to do much better and produce at least 500hp. Even though the R8 won, this seems more like negative publicity. $40K is a big difference.

If you've ever priced a Porche, you must realize that at that price it probably didn't come with a radio or anything else that will be standard on the R8.

The R8 looks like an exotic compared to the ordinary (still great) looking 911. Plus the R8 interior is the best one available on a sportcar, only beaten by the one in the Veyron.

There is an official price out there, if you look at different Audi websites based in Europe you can find the price in Euros (of course).

The R8 starts at 88342 Euros, then of course you can add different packages. The starting price is with a manual transmission (6), you can also choose the automatic trans (called R-Tronic).

I was able to add up to about 119k Euros with the maximum possible options. But then you might also compare the car with another full options car, right ? A fair comparison would be with the same options added, I didn't check the Porsche website to do it, I don't care that much anyway who wins. I know I'll take the R8 anytime over the Porsche for many reasons.

But one thing which i always said from the day Audi revealed the price of the R8 is that it's too expensive(versus it's main rivals,who are even more powerful).

The GT3 hardly compares. It's a toy for weekends only. R8 is an everyday supercar.

M6 is a GT. Handling won't be as good.

911 Turbo is the best proposition against it, but still, the R8 is in a class of its own. R8 still has more exotic looks, more standard features and classier trim.

The R8, according to AUTOCAR, is only £6K more than a Carrera S, base.

OK, firstable I knew the R8 couldn't beat the 911 GT3 in the Nurbugring.

Second, the 911 C4s does 0-60 in 4.1 sec according to Road And Track. So that should be the same time as this R8.

In that test, the R8 would've been even quicker. I remember it- they compared the C4S to the RS4. Both got super-quick times. RS4 got a stupendous 4.3, as opposed to 4.8 quoted by Audi.

It's all about conditions. In this test, the C4S would've probably gotten mid-4s. Notice that the Carrera S is quicker than the Carrera 4S, but is still slower than the R8.

The R8 has almost freak a 100 hp over the Porsche, 95 hp to be exact. The Porsche brand is legendary, Audi will need to put more time before they could reach that status.

And I'm sure you'll say "the new Lexus LF-A already beats the 911 in everyway its so awesome best car in world yes ahahahahahahhahah."

but you see Porche Carreras everywhere these days, its time to get something new and something that looks a little more exotic. Iwould take the R8 over the Carrera anyday of the week.

"German Nut" I wouldn't go as far as saying the R8 will toast the M6 around the track because we don't even have slalom numbers from the R8 yet.

The M6 does 70 mph through the slalom which is amazing for a car of it's size, weight & comfort. Plus it appears that the M6 is faster through the 1/4mile than the R8.

The RS4 is already as fast as the M6 around the Nürburgring.

The R8 will do away with your notion.

One other thing in regards to what "Chewy" said; & I'm not saying anybody copied anybody, but just look at the interior of a 6-Series, & then the interior of a Bugatti Veyron...They’re very similar in design.

On that note IMO the R8 is Audi’s best exterior design to date, but the interior is one of Audi’s worse, & that’s Audi’s specialty.

"S4" just look how the Veyron's doorsills extend into & around the dash just like in the 6. Even the armrest design on the doors looks similiar, I should know I sit in one (6-series that is) everyday.

This test was a bit skewed. If Anything they should have tested a C4S against it. The Porsche may have been a tick slower but the price would be closer and the power would match better.
I must be the only one around here that thinks the Audi is a bit too made up. Its a bit too ostentatious for me. The 911 is classically beautiful The R8 while it has a sinister look is just too much for my tasts. Its trying too hard.

the R8 will be a classic and in 10 years the low production R8 will do fine. Look at the Resell of the RS6. These are 2003 RS6s selling for the 45-55k range

why not compare it to the gt3, at what around 110,000 base, that is the closest porsche to the estimated price for the r8. of course the porsche is the "better sports car" this test proved it, the test just shows the r8 "may" be the better gt, which the 911 has always been a sports car. but hey i guess anything to give the underdog, the overpriced underdog credit. the r8 imo doesnt have a direct rival its not as intense as the f430, ford gt crowd, etc. and not as performance oriented as the 911, and not a big luxury car like the m6, or maserati coupe, etc. the only car that ever came close on looks and overall package was the nsx, luxury, mid engine, exotic styling, around 100 grand. but they are ditching that for a boring front engined corvette look alike go figure

nah i would have to disagree 1. the gt3 rs is the track car the gt3 is just as useable as any other 911, audi is modeling itself after bmw, ive owned 1 audi and was a disaster, after that sudden take off fiasco i learned never to buy another one that and the poor electronics, not to mention the oil leaks the worst new car ive ever purchased........but poor quality aside. again like i said it is overpriced, and the underdog and both are true, and mt new it which is why they compared the lowly model of the range to the r8. i think the r8 is a great car, but its not a porsche its not a bmw (what every other audi tries to be), its in its own class of car, and again since the nsx is out of production there is no car like it, at any price imo, but the better than any bmw comment is laughable at best if you start comparing bmw m cars to the r8 it would make it look totally pointless, but hey thats any car really....and lmao about the 911 handles better...than this midengine 2 seater lol good job porsche

It's as simple as that in terms of track performance. You can say whatever you want about Audi not being as good as the Porsche, but when it comes to Audi being as good as a BMW around the track.....the Audi is more than capable.

But since Porsche will soon own 29% of VW why would they cantinue to allow the development of the R8? I think that since they will be the magority stockholder that the V10 version is doomed. Porsche will now soon start controlling Audi and VW. They are not going to let Audi do the V10 in the R8 nor will they allow Audi to due a mid engined R4 to compete against the Boxster/Cayman. It will not happen!
