Hands On Approach: Ford CEO To Sell Cars at a Dealership

Ford Motor Co. Chief Executive Alan Mulally vowed Sunday to travel to a U.S. dealership this year and spend a couple days selling cars.

Mulally, who left aircraft maker Boeing Co. to run the No. 2 U.S. automaker in September, accepted the offer during a closed-door meeting of the National Automobile Dealers Assn. in Las Vegas. Ford officials are now working on selecting a date and location.

I think that it would be of more value if he spent his time at a Ford dealership and then spent some time at other manfacturers' dealerships. Then, maybe a lightbulb would appear.

plus i think any dealership will prove valueable experiance for him. A ford dealership just more than others. What he really needs to do is just ask people what they want from a car. Kinda like what ford did when they designed the Turus.

He should do it "in disguise" to get a real picture. You know the dealership will be hand-picked and everyone will be preped for his days there.

He already knows what its like at a Lexus dealership since that is the car he was driving

he may learn a lot too, by going to OTHER than ford dealerships, and asking people why they are STAYING AWAY IN DROVES from ford stores! ;)

This is a good move since he will know (I hope) why people are not buying Fords and what he should do about it in future models.

If someone makes an offer on a car, will he have the authority to accept/reject it, or will he have to talk to his "manager"?
