Ford Motor Co. will rename its slow-selling Five Hundred model the Taurus, a name Ford previously used for a car that became the nation’s top-seller, company officials said Tuesday.

I doubt that.

I could not believe it when I heard this. This is some kind of joke or marketing ploy right? The Ford 500 is a boring car. Slapping the Taurus name on it will not do any good. Does anybody at Ford actually have a clue about what to do about fixing there crapy company? By the way is it me or does the new Ford Edge look exactly like the Suzuki XR7? Did Ford just rebadge this too? “Captain we have lost all our engines. Don’t worry we don’t need those, the ground will break are fall”

Ford thinks that if they change the name that they change the car. I drove all of Ford's cars/trucks (except the GT). The five hundred drove by far the worst. It is also the ugliest. The fusion drove much better in everyway. Even the Explorer (I hate SUV's and trucks) drove far better than the five hundred.

jt716-Thanks for setting me straight on the Suzuki. i am glad to here it. Maybe I am biased but I am so tired of Ford not steping up to the plate. I relly do hope that Ford pulls out of it but I still think they need to listen to the customers a lot more. I know this sounds stupid but I really think they have forgoten what a great American Car company can be.

They just made the Taurus a disgrace, just like the Navigator, Aviator, F-Series, Expedition and so on.

This name change thing seem to be a part of Ford's history. How long did the Contour last? Why was the escort (albeit a dumb name) changed to Focus? Plus that whole mess going on over at Lincoln. Truly this was expected...

They have no idea what they're doing!

Will, I agree. I, for one, really liked the Interceptor- looks and performance-wise.

The Taurus was bad and the 500 is even worst.

The 1998-2005 Taurus was bad, yes. But before that, it was an Audi 5000-copying design that was really quite sleek.

The 500 isn't a bad car. It's just incredibly boring.

The car is not bad but the styling inside and out needs a rethink. Te greenhouse needs a restyle and the interior needs better quality plastics as well as a redesign. I would guess that with the new 3.5 it's a better driving car, especially without the CVT tranny. This needs the styling of the Interceptor right now! Offer it in AWD only and stick a V8 in it.The new front grill is fine. It just doesn't jive with the rouded VW Passat greenhouse. That's Ford problem right now. They are like Nissan was when it was near bankruptsy. All me too conservative styled cars. The 300 helped bring back Chrysler. The Interceptor would help Ford. That's what the Taurus should be!

LOL, it was interesting to experience someone posting about the Taurus, when you said "Taurus" at the end. When I think of the Taurus, I definitely don't think of the 500!
