EU To Ease Emmision Standards After Outcries From Automakers

The European Commission is expected to soften its original proposal to limit carbon dioxide emissions for cars produced in Europe that was originally set at 120g/km by 2012. A source from the EU has told Reuters the restriction will instead be set at 130g/km, but the Commission would still target an overall cut in emissions to 120g/km to be achieved through biofuel use and other technology in addition to improved standards from carmakers themselves.

The current industry average remains at 161g/km, however, the new restrictions are being pushed towards binding legislation. This is because until now, European carmakers have failed to come even close to voluntary standards that were set at 140g/km by 2008.

Who cares. This is almost pointless when compraed to the fact that 8 million American vehicles are sold each year that produce about 325 grams of C02 per km.

Won't Europe be the first face the affects of Global warming. I mean they have had the pollution for the longest, especially Britain.

I don't think so. The key word is Global. And most reports are probably over hyping the warming. But limiting C02 emission is a good idea. As the article says the typical European car puts out only about 1/2 C02 of the typical American vehicle (SUV/pickup)

europe will be DRASTICALLY AFFECTED by global warming. and ironically, the effects in europe will be DROPS in temperature.

as the greenland glaciers and ice sheets melt, the gulf stream will slow. the gulf stream is what WARMS europe to temps above what they WOULD normally be, at the given latitudes.

well europeans don't seem overly concerned about TOXIC diesel exhaust.

if they don't care about slowing global warming either, well, they're just making their own bed...

(the excuse that americans are worse is hardly an excuse. just as americans blaming the chinese.

(in both cases, using that as an excuse for messing your OWN house is like cutting off your nose to spite your face.)

Americans don't seem concerned about the environmentally-unsound hybrid battery destruction/creation process, either.
