Toyota Reports Record Quarterly Profits & Sales

So, you actually think your pathetic ford can fight off Toyota? I believe Toyota is currently #2 in the world and #3 in the USA and of course #1 in Japan. Give it a little more time; ford will be behind Honda and Nissan.

It is not that easy guy. The automotive market is slowing down on a whole, yet Toyota is still posting gains (especially when other automakers were declining). Also in the past six years Toyota has gained alot. Toyota was in what 4th place in the world at that time selling around 5 million vehicles or so (7 million in 2003). So with them selling almost 9 million vehicles today is a big accomplishment itself. So next time why don't you think more logically there, ok. GM has been around the world forever (And they own a whole lot of world brands too, i.e. Opel, Holden, Daewoo, owned Subaru, Vauxhall, Saab. This helps sales because people are still buying their favorite brand versus buying only Toyota and Daihatsu), Toyota only started to pick up steam in the 70's.

You are right, at domestic dealerships the opposite is going on. It is not the views of the customers I am talking about here it is the presence of customers. I've driven around automalls to go the dealership for service and guess what the domestics are the ones with the most mark downs and also the ones with the least customers. BTW, when was the last time you went to a domestic dealership??? In most suburban dealerships this is the case, of course places where nobody lives is different ;).

So, by your logic, people that buy foreign cars in other countries (e.g. Chinese that buy GMs) are sellouts to their country? People that watch Hollywood films in other countries are sellouts to their domestic film industries? Funny, it's big business, and we know the types who support big business, are the ones to push for globalization, yet when it comes back in a negative way, they are the first people to shout unfair.

Ahh, now I see what you are. I am quite sure that you have no clue about economics. Just because a thing isn't built in the US doesn't mean it hurts the US. Globalization is not a bad thing it is a good. Please educate yourself in economics.

One more thing in the future it seems that Toyota will build more cars in the US (in the US not North America) than Ford or GM. Also I believe you didn't read the section where Toyota's non-union employees got more money than UAW employees.

My dad bought a Toyota Tacoma, its a foriegn car, except for the fact that it was made about 70 miles from where I live (I don't live near the border of anything).

Actually the profit, if any, ends up in the "headquarters", and I don't think they are going to be sharing it with you..in the mean while all the jobs and benefits are over in Canada and Mexico for the "Non-Americans"

Are you a GM & Ford enthusiasts, but a Toyota hater? I, like any true car enthusiast, appreciate things in about every make of car, but I think you are making the GM & Ford fans look as bad as the Mercedes fans on here with your close-mindedness. Maybe you should stop waving your American flag (that was made in China down the street from the place that made 20% of your dream truck) and realize there is no such thing as "import" or "domestic" anymore, as globalization over the past decade has blurred the lines. You will appreciate this small lesson when you have to take your first high school Economics class.

if you LEARNED a little basic economics, you'd know that profits are what is LEFT OVER after all the EXPENSES are taken care of. revenue is the cash flow coming in BEFORE expenses are taken care of, and profit (IF any) calculated.

of the HUNDREDS of BILLIONS of revenue generated by toyota, the MAJORITY PERCENTAGE gets distributed to american suppliers, their employees, salesfolk, distributors, independent dealers, mechanics, etc. etc. of the REMAINING profits, most again go to american EMPLOYEES of toyota, including for new product development, and american (and other)STOCKHOLDERS. ONLY THEN does a fraction of the remainder actually go to japan.

of the revenue and profits of the Big 2.5 (WHEN such ever come into being), there is a similar distribution.

and a SIZABLE CHUNK goes to CEO salaries and bonuses. these CEOs make something like 10 - 20x what the toyota CEOs make. and they get these almost criminal amounts of $$$, whether profits are made or NOT!

so WHICH is a more beneficial stream of revenue and profits, to MORE americans?

if you are capable of analyzing this, you'll see that people who buy toyotas and hondas likely RECYCLE MORE $$$ to fellow average americans than those who buy "domestic."

also consider, there is more WASTE, or revenue LEAKAGE, and LOWER EFFICIENCIES with the domestics. top to bottom and back up.

from sloppy engineering, lesser plant efficiencies, overpaid and underperforming UAW "workers," right up to the sales floor. (and beyond the sales floor to corporate suites, where the grossly OVERPAID execs are.)

the average dodge dealership sells LESS than 1/4 as many vehicles as the average toyota dealership. chevy dealers sell ONLY 1/3 as much.

honda dealers sell TWICE as many cars per store as ford dealers.

detroit: waste, inefficiency, waste, inefficiency, mediocre products, inefficiency. is it any wonder they're bleeding so much red ink?

and WHO ultimately pays for all this? the much abused, LOYAL CUSTOMERS. as more wise up, 2.5 sales slump ever lower.

it's sad. i actually would hate to see the 2.5 go bankrupt. but i can't see any pullout from this spiral.
