Mercedes Car Group Global Sales Rise 6.9 Percent in January

Global sales at DaimlerChrysler's premium division Mercedes Car Group rose 6.9 percent in January to 77,700 units as strength at the Mercedes-Benz brand offset a slump at Smart, it said today.
Sales of Mercedes-Benz brand cars gained 13.9 percent to 73,500 units thanks to robust demand for its top-end S-class and E-class sedans and its family of SUVs, the world's fifth-biggest carmaker said in a statement.
"Overall sales of Mercedes-Benz brand vehicles in the luxury segment rose 43 percent in January to 8,500 units," it said, noting S-class deliveries had risen "significantly", while E-class sales gained 13 percent to 15,600 units.
