Will Mini Make AWD an Option Across The Entire Range?

Mini will be launching several variations of the popular small car over the next five years, including the possibility of cars fitted with a new AWD system being developed for the upcoming Clubman/Countryman. German magazine Auto Motor und Sport has published the statement, “an all-wheel drive system will be available in 2008 for all models,” at the end of an article about the new stretched Mini in its latest issue.

All technology will come from the BMW side. What do you think a modern Mini is but but a FWD BMW!

You are probably right about Mini getting x-Drive technology, but Mini is very unique compared to BMW. The FWD part makes them a world apart alone. Mini uses superchargers, BMW turbo. The list goes on.

They do share the horrible run flat tires.

Btw, new MINI (R56) uses a turbocharged engine (1.6L) developed in cooperation with PSA. Supercharged engine will be used in cabrio only till new cabrio is introduced next year.

Also: MINI wont use xDrive but a special "active yaw" system named Twinster(tm) developed by Getrag.
