Smart Fortwo price revealed

No one in the US will consider that a "car." Some will buy it as a toy, and they won't care what the price is. In the city, where these things are supposed to sell, it's expensive to have any car, no matter how small or cheap it is.

I'm definitely down for this. Let's just hope the Brabus edition comes out, and by some unexplained miracle, they bring the roadster out from the grave and over here in the states.

This car is useless. The amount of sacrifice just to drive one of these just doesn't make any sense. I compared this car with a Scion xA and I just didn't see any logic in the Smart car.

The xA starting cost is at about $13.5k, and the Smart starts at 11k, why isn't it logical to pay 2.5k less for a similar car, both in function and size.

I think the Smart will be the next mini - a classic.

Because its overrated and hyped. They're very similar cars, but the Smart car is compromised extremely. Lower horsepower, rear wheel drive????(why). Gas mileage is almost the same, trunk space, only seats 2, base model has no a/c, xA seats 5 and its smiliar in price. Obviously, whoever's going to buy this car is gonna buy for the sole purpose of owning one. Thats how I see it.

Rear wheel drive because that's where the engine is....

I like the idea of small. I have a feeling owning and operating a smart car in the city would be a better experience than the xa.

People will buy the Smart. Whoever bought the smart already would consider this new Smart. It's easy to park and quite practical if you live in a urban setting. Perhaps people don't want or need that horsepower gas guzzler.

People laugh at this car because they think it's funny looking but in some parts of the world it's very popular. Sometimes it's SMART to own a smart car because in some areas the population is so dense and the parking spots are so tight that owning an S-class wouldn't be practical therefore having to turn to ideal cars for it's environment. When it's a matter of being 'cool' its not cool to drive around like an idiot looking for a spot to park when the SMART could have parked and left before the larger can could even find one. Haven't that said i would never purchase one but i'm defending the little car because it does serve a purpose or else they wouldn't have made it.

I don't like it. It doesn't serve a definitive purpose (Agent63), it has no niche in the market, and there's not a single reason to buy this over one of its better-equipped, better-performing, more spacious competitors.

I don't understand why people are saying "well you can find a space when your in a smart."

Do you honestly think there are some spaces that can't fit a Toyota Yaris that can fit a Smart? If you can't find a space with a slightly larger car, you won't with this, either.

There's plenty of reasons. It's unique, classy, well-built, very inexpensive, has great gas mileage, and it can withstand impact from an S-class much better than most other, if not all other sub-compact cars. The added fact that Brabus will most likely have modifications for this car is a nice plus as well, also sweetening the rear-wheel drive set up.

I may be a fan of Toyota reliability and basic cars, but I'll choose a Smart over the Yaris any day. If I want a mundane 5-seater, then I'll get a Corolla.

As most Mercedes-Benzes, it is overpriced.

At $11 - $15K the Smart is actually well priced for North America. The car has its own unique style and the interior, like the new (2002 on) MINI can actually hold 2 large Americans and their oversized backsides. I don't think it's practical as an only car though, not unless one never leaves the crowded city. However, as a second car to run local errands, etc. it's makes a helluva lot more sense that a SL600 or Cayenne Turbo. And like the MINI, it does have cache. After all there were a whole bunch of cheap Asian imports priced lower than the MINI, but they never approached the MINI's iconic standing. I think the Smart will do the same.

Have you seen or sat inside a Smart? It's extrememly cheap on the inside, that's why it's priced so low. This will never have the cache that the Mini has. Minis are cool, this isn't.

I don't think it takes $11,000 to make a car this size. Also, is the &15,000 convertible looks unsafe. I'm no expert in automotive engineering, but I happen to recall that structural integrity is compromised without the top. So, even with the special shell Mercedes has designed, won't this car be pitifully unsafe say, in a crash with a Suburban?

It had some hype when it was launched in Canada a few years back, now it's not selling at all. I've drove the current version, the tranny is awful, need a lot of careful foot work (gas pedel only) to get used to.

security companies and parking enforcement is a big fan of this little car.

I saw a Smart today in Boulder. It's a perfect car for this area if you're not going to buy a subaru (insider joke). When you only drive a few miles to get to work in the city where you cant get over 30 miles per hour anyway, it's a neat concept. 40+ mpg is a novel idea too. I've seen one crashed into a wall at 70mph and it survived quite well. Unfortunately, the suburbanization of America makes this a hard car to own for most people.

It looks like an interesting idea (fro amybe a few years) but I honestly don't think it'd do well here. Also, I'd hate to see the result of a Dodge Ram 3500 plowing into the side of one of these.
