If they sold their cars and trucks in the USA, would they sell?

Whether on not it will succeed in the US will come down to market positioning. They tried about 15 years back with the "invisible" marketing campaign. Then due to very poor reliability by consumer reports developed a bad reputation and had to pull out. Having lived both in Europe and the US I can say that in Europe the position of Peugeot in Europe is clearly considered second to third tier. Just visit the Citroen and Peugeot ( they are now merged ) websites, and look at their models and market focus. It is more glitz than substance in the designs.

The only differences are the headlights/grille and the rear (I think)

But the Outlander is not a bad looking cute ute (one of the best) but its sharp lines don't work really well with Peugeots smoother lines. The regular Peugeout sedans are a better example of their design.

The Mitsubishi Outlander in the US is a surprisingly well-priced and goodlooking vehicle, and is one of the reasons why there appears to be a rebound in sales of Mitsubishis.

Exactly, Peugeot shares some Mitsubishi models. So in other words we do sell this SUV in the states. :-)

The interior is too basic for my liking. It does look nice though. The front end looks like they slapped on a front end from what of their cars but it will take some getting used to. Overall above average build

Looks cool, but then its Mitsubishiness comes out on the interior which is complete with the little Rockford Fosgate logo on the stereo.

The interior is straight out of the Mitsu, but the Outlander itself is somewhat of an RX-copyer. Check out their rear views (the Outlander and the RX350). Even the interior is vaguely reminescent.

I don't think I'd buy one. Most French cars tick me off.

Didn't Peugot already test their luck in the U.S. and fail? Anyhow, I really like the look of this and I think Americans would be more accepting the second time around.

This SUV looks nothing like the Buick Enclave, it's a Mitsubushi.

I guess if people are willing to buy Korean cars, a French one would sell?? The next RX shouldn't look for any design Qs from this hidious thing.

I think Peugeot would sell very well in the US.In Europe is a very appreciated brand because of the design,reliability and most important,comfort.If brands like Kia or Hyunday sell in the US i don't see why Peugeot wouldn't sell because it's 4x better than those two.

Priced right, with supportive marketing, the brand "Peugeot" could probably sell quite well in the US.

They've got STYLE on their side for one, something many mainstreamers in the US lack. I can see them being a serious competitor to Volkswagen, since Peugeot will probably be priced and targeted more at VW. Semi-premium mainstream market, essentially. I think it would also be great to see Renault, Citroen and Alfa Romeo here. We need more choices, especially cleaner diesels, which the French really excel at.

Peugeot stopped selling car in the U.S because their policy was that what was good for the frenchmen was good for the Americans. They did not listen or care to the needs or wishes of the american consumer/customers or for that matter for the repeated advice of their dealer network. The outcome was obvious. I guess arrogance has no limit and certainly is a trade mark of the french......

I'm not keen on the look of the rear ro of seats....

Other European, Italian, and UK SUVs would definitely sell in the US. Look at Kia and Hyundai...they were the road-less-taken at first, but their overall brand character (and competitive prices) have definitely proliferated the US market. Many US consumers want something different from the American Big 3, Toyota, Nissan, and VW...and buy into it.

Why elso do we constantly hear about Alfa Romeo returning, and that maybe it'll be a good idea for Holden to become a low-volume brand in the US?

I'm from europe and those ugly peugeot's and citroën's are everywhere here. I hate them.
Their is always too much, and in europe they are known for being the cheaper alternative for bmw, audi, mercedes,... That's why young people in europe don't like them.

I totally agree. Americans are sooo weird! But as i said, french cars and american cars have some things in common: poor quality in the inside, grotesque design on the outside(look at the 407! and the new 207! they've gone ...grotesque, they are exagerating with the design, it all started from that smooth 206 and look where they got...).

First of all, i think this is a cheap prank: the interior in this picture is the 2007 Outlander's interior, but with the steering wheel badge changed and navigation display instead of mp3 player. It's identical!!!Is it Photoshop? If it's the real Peugeot interior, i would sue them.
In fact, Mitsu Outlander have copied RX350's dash!
I don't think Peugeot will sell again on the American market. In Europe, the small sized 206 and 307 represents 60%-70% of their total sells, which don't stand a chance on the American market.Peugeot (and french cars) means nice but cheap (you pay little, you get little). But cheap is also the american car quality. Ask any European!
I would place my bet on Alfa though.

They are not going to sue because Peugeot, Citroen and Mitsubishi have an agreement to build the same vehicle.
I would buy a French car before buying an American car because french cars are a blast to drive..case in point...the Renault Clio 192 and the previous Renault Clio RS V6...

Ok, my 2nd bet: AlexTx,you are french! Only a frenchman would say 2 Renaults are best ...whatever... Renault will always be a Renault, and that's the cheapest car brand in the world. Maybe tied by Fiat, but on the second thought, nah... it's only Renault.And Clio... come on, that's the cheapest car in the world! And the worst. I know.
I knew they had a partnership with Toyota 4 Aigo, C1 and 107, but nothing about Mitsu 4 this SUV or whatever it is. Still, it sucks, selling the same car with 3 different car bodies.

In order to break into the US market these days you need to build cheap cars. There are plenty of quality cars on the market, to the point where the market is saturated.

I think between the grill, headlights, and the interior trim it looks like they copied a Cayenne, inside and out.

Yeah, it does look like the TSX dash - with exception to the climate controls and vents.
It would be great to have another Euro brand stateside, but I've owned a Peugeot (505GL) and it was the biggest headache to maintain. I'm sure things have changed since, but you know, once bitten, twice shy.

Not the most original looking vehicle, although I like it. I just couldn't see myself spending too much on this boring car,then again the Subaru looks boring too and I LOVE the Subaru!

Peugeot has been making beautiful design for the last 10 years. Their coupe in the late 90's was extraordinary. They vacated the Canadian market years ago due to lack of sales and some reliability issues.

In my opinion they could have major success in the marketplace if they re-entered the market with reliable and exciting cars.Their designs would grab instant attention as they're out of the ordinary.

They are reliable. Modern Peugeots are co-developed with Citroen, so combining their engineering talents they have created some very robust, efficient and powerful engines.

They are no less reliable than say, BMW. The only issues I can think of are electic, and not life-threatening for anyone who doesn't own a Subaru ;)

Mathew; Since when were BMWs concidered reliable? It is just I have never heard of anyone claiming them to be reliable,a status symbol and sporty yes . Are you saying Subaru has reliability issues? I just haven't heard that one? (we all have to hear it). The new Citroens looks great. Does anyone remember how ugly the old Peugeots looked? Then again as long as it performs in efficiency,safety, and of course the ability to haul the family around, that is what is important to me.If it is pretty that is a bonus!

Yeah,they did,like 30 years ago.

Peugeout may make great cars for the French market, but they failed in the U.S. re-entering this market won't be easy and having decent cars without a dealer network won't cut it.
