M6 Convertible beats SL65 AMG

M6 Convertible beats SL65 AMG
It's not easy to compare the 2007 BMW M6 Convertible and the 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG. The whole idea teeters on the brink of the ridiculous.

How relevant is a comparison of a $108,795 BMW M6 to a $189,375 Mercedes SL? With about a thousand M6 convertibles and less than half as many SL65 AMGs expected to arrive this year, the pool of potential buyers won't get the soles of your feet wet.

The financing is certainly ridiculous. On a typical 60-month car loan, reduced by a generous $20,000 down payment, the monthly payment on a base SL65 (without any options) would be $3,812. By the end of those five years, the well-to-do SL65 AMG owner will have laid down $250,000 total.

And yet the 2007 BMW M6 Convertible and the 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG offer such a sublime level of performance that they will fascinate anyone more likely to spend such money on real estate, not a car.

what exactly makes one car better than the next? It surly cant be horsepower. So someone saying "OH the merc has 600+ how can it loose to a BM with 500". SO im guessing it must be the way the car makes the driver feel, or how the driver feels in the car.

It's because of the price.

SL65 is ridiculous, and Lindsay Lohan has one.

It should've been SL55 vs. M6, no?

Do they not make an SL63? Or is it just SL550, SL600, and SL65? An SL63 would have made the most sense to compare to an M6 because the performance and price would be the most similar.

And the sl55, it lives on.

the arguement against the SL55 would be performance based. They figured that the SL65 would be a better match for performance. Granted it is alot more expensive, but this is not the first time a magazine has compared 2 cars with such a large price gap and will not be the last .... didnt some magazine compare a subaru to a porsche?

I'd get an M6 and a loaded A8L.

It's not THAT far-fetched. The M6 and SL65 are the two GT flagships for the brands.

It's like comparing the Z06 to the 911 Turbo. Not quite as large of a price difference, but similar, nonetheless.

If it was for free I would take the SL65.

If I had to buy either one I would choose neither.

Instead of an SL65 I have much better choices:
AM DB9
Bentley Continental GT
Lamborghini Gallardo

Instead of BMW M6 I also have better choices:
AM V8 Vantage
Audi R8

The Gallardo is WAY out of this price range. About $320K for a new LP640.

If I could have any car for $200,000...

It would probably be a Mercedes S65. I would only be able to get a base model- but I'm saying that as if an S-Class doesn't have a ton standard already. Either that, or a loaded-to-the-brim A8L W12, with everything customized, from the color of the piping to the grain of the wood.

At the end I am right...it is just matter of your limits. If you have the money you'll get the best....and no doubt it is SL65. BMW should keep working M3 type cars. This is not the first time that BMW try to beat SL and fail in the same way the MB will never create and M3, is not part of their DNA.

the sl65 lost because of the price its the only reason.it beats the m6 in performance and it looks better than the m6, but still they prefer the m6 because of the stupid price....
