DaimlerChrysler to Exit Iranian Market

DaimlerChrysler intends to divest its majority stake in the company that is its exclusive distributor for Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Iran, Germany's WirtschaftsWoche magazine reported on its Web site.

"The group is reacting to the growing pressure that the United States is applying on companies that do business in Iran," the magazine said Monday, without giving a source for its information.

It said DaimlerChrysler would sell its 51 percent stake in marketing group Setareh in the next few weeks.

DaimlerChrysler, the world's fifth-biggest car maker thanks to the 1998 merger of Germany's Daimler-Benz with U.S. automaker Chrysler, declined comment.

There is a quite famous car company from Iran which mainly caters to their local market. I don't know the name but I'll get back to you when I find it.

They're mainly based off older Fiat designs if I recall correctly.

they make their own puegoet persia exclusive model,405,206 and have their own company called Iran Khodo and they have BMW and MB police cars.

The old MB's, especially till the early 80's (190 was the last series) were built like tanks. They didnt look swoopy or have too much power but they were so damn reliable and strong that they could run in any condition. In those days MB was run by engineers who regularly overengineered the cars to meet close to 1000% of the regquired spec.
Like american cars from the 50's, u can see them still running in all different parts of the world.

right now all of the police cars in iran are MB c320, so thats what DaimlerChrysler has been giving them, c320s for cop cars.
