SPYSHOTS: 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

Remember the 2009 SL article? Well, as usual, I was right. It IS the SL63 AMG, and it should have a 500+ hp V8, to replace the SL55.

For those not in the know, there is currently a 470hp SL55 AMG and a 600hp SL65 AMG. The SL63 will replace the 55, because Benz would like to have a 6.2L in every model, apparently. Yes, it's confusing that both will soon start with "6", but that's just the way it is.

The current Sl55 has 517hp, the previous model had 497 IIRC.

"63" is a homage to the legendary 300SEL 6.3 S-Class from the 1960s.

i think it's funny that the 63 actually has a bigger engine...the 65 amg is actually a 6.0 litre, and the 600 is a 5.5...

I think the SL63 AMG will be even better balanced than the SL55 AMG. The engine response will be better because it is a naturally aspirated machine and judging from the magic Mercedes worked on the E63 AMG, the SL63 AMG will most likely handle much better than the outgoing SL55 AMG.

Bill, he wasn't comparing the SL63 to the SL55. He was saying that it was odd that the SL63, being a step below the SL65 and SL600, actually has a larger engine.

I know it's old, but I posted it because some posters were confused as to what the car was. They thought it was a totally new SL.
