Valentines Day Massacre? Chrysler Axes 13,000 Jobs
The Chrysler Group will slash 13,000 jobs, close one assembly plant and eliminate shifts at two others in a broad restructuring aimed at returning the U.S. division of DaimlerChrysler AG to profitability in 2008.

The "recovery and transformation" plan announced today also leaves the door open for Chrysler to possibly be sold or aligned with strategic partners in the future, according to the DaimlerChrysler supervisory board.

Chrysler said it plans to reduce its hourly employment by 11,000 jobs -- 9,000 in the United States. and 2,000 in Canada -- over the next three years. About one-half of the reductions will be effective this year.

In addition, Chrysler will reduce its salaried employment by 2,000 positions over the next two years, with the first 1,000 job cuts coming in 2007.

What a shame it would be for Mercedes to lose that gem.

That's OK, because those UAW's will be just as happy working at a grocery store or driving garbage trucks.

Just as long as they get a paycheck, is all they care about.

The Charger is very cool... were you driving the HEMI, or even the SRT8?

It's not too hard to pass people driving 5ers. They're usually just in it for the badge.

The Challenger is disappointing. Hideous rear fenders.

I feel for those employees that have lost there jobs! Employment Inshurance is a very humiliating expirience! I believe the cuts should be on all the brass! They are the reason Chrysler is failing and I bet they are not getting any cuts! I am not a huge Dodge fan but you have got to love the Dodge Power Wagon and the Hemi Charger! Chrysler should extend there warante to be more competitive. For the ex Chrysler employees Maybe they could get a job at Honda? We should wish them all the best of luck.
