BMW Planning X5, 3-series Based Sportvans
BMW is planning the "F5" for launch in 2009, and is now considering this sport van based off of the three series for production as well. In a World of big floaty minivans, these vehicles offer potential excitement in an otherwise boring segment (save for the Mazda 5, which is available with a manual transmission).

Is it the R-class or B-class competitor?

The only sports minivan that is planned is the F05 V5, There is no information on the V3. Perhaps we might be looking at a rendering of the X4 which is the SAC version of the X3 as the X6 is a SAC version of the X6.
The F05 is the R-Class competitor.

I am unfamiliar with the B-class, but looking at it on the internet, I would think this would be a competitor for it. The R-class is much bigger.

I think BMW has done a great job with the X5 and can do the same with a crossover wagon-type vehicle. It'll definitely be a sports touring wagon.

AHH, BAD PHOTOSHOP.

Why is BMW doing this? Why do they have to copy Mercedes? It should be the other way around- Mercedes wants the #1 spot back, so they should copy BMW.

This is just a dumb idea that doesn't fit the image of the brand at all. MB can pull it off, but I just don't see it taking off for them. Especially when you consider that you can buy a nice '09 diesel X5 instead of a hideous van. Why diesel? Because some would think they should buy the van because of the mileage. Diesel addresses that.

I know that BMW is constantly generating a lot of innovation designs to their models. This particular one is allright. It reminds me of one of the MAZDA models. I think their going for "sporty" and "sleek" design.
