Toyota Not Interest in Buying Other Companies

"OUSTON (Reuters) -- The president of Toyota Motor North America said Wednesday the Japanese automaker is not interested in buying other companies.

His remarks were made in response to a question about whether Toyota would have any interest in buying DaimlerChrysler AG's (Charts) money-losing Chrysler operation in North America, which its parent had indicated it could sell or spin off.

"We don't have any particular interest in acquiring other companies," Jim Press, Toyota's North American president, told a media briefing at the Cambridge Energy Research Associates CERA Week meeting.

Toyota (Charts) does not have an objective to expand its business through acquisition or merger, Press said."
