Volkswagen announces plans for a Golf Hybrid

Winterkorn earlier last week announced that the redesign for the next generation Golf will be delayed by at least six months. Now in a recent speech to his staff, the Volkswagen CEO announced plans for a Golf Hybrid variant. Congratulating his staff on the hard work put into recent Volkswagen models and the company’s success due to the Golf model, he said that the hybrid technology should be used in all models, especially the Golf, and not just in the Passat, Tiguan, Jetta, Touareg or Audi Q7.

We will probably see an official production version by the end of this year.

small diesel + hybrid = huge mileage and good torque. Usually this translates into sales success.

It would be great if they could do a diesel hybrid, but I don't think that they have the technology proven just yet. As I understand it, there are inherent difficulties in creating a diesel hybrid.

Hybrid diesels aren't that much different than conventional gasoline diesels. It's just the additional cost of a diesel (which really isnt that much) that stops manufacturers from building them. GM makes a hybrid-diesel bus which is by all respects, an amazing feat of engineering. Massive fuel economy gains coupled with something like 90% emissions reductions.

Nice idea.Follow the leader,TOYOTA.

BTW i strongly believe that VW will make the normal gasoline Hybrid and not the Diesel hybrid.

As the technology is still new and it will take lots of time,resources and study to be mass marketed.
After we all know that Toyota will do it(Diesel hybrids) first.
