Ford Edge not selling so well

It’s only been two months since the 2007 Ford Edge crossover went on sale and Ford is already putting an incentive for buyers on the car. Ford has decided to put a $500 incentive, paid directly to dealers to use at their discretion, on the entry-level SE model. Automotive News reports that is Ford also offering bonuses to dealership sales consultants that can reach $500.

Hmm, we wonder why the Edge is not selling so well?

Ford is losing their ass and this is the BEST idea that can come up with??? another (ugly) gas guzzling SUV? Wow, great idea Ford!!! A real automotive break-thru!! (PS - I do like the Ford Fusion).

Agree that the Edge is not a good design, I think its extraordinarily bland rather than ugly though. Somehow it looks like a minivan rather than an attractive "edgy" vehicle - like it was designed not to offend and not to stimulate passion either. Kind of like the Ford 500.

This article isn't even correct. The Ford Edge is selling quite well. They are offering rebates because the low end model of the Edge isn't selling well because buyers are opting for the more expensive models. Here is a more relevant article:

The add campaign is a bit on the lame side. Ford really needs to fire their add agency, get a bit deeper into tech and upgrade the training of their salespeople. My gf bought a fusion a few months ago and beyond the fact that the car she wanted was very hard to find we walked out of two dealerships because the salespeople were old guys who really didnt seem all that interested in making a sale at a good price.

Three possible main problems that FORD has:

1.) Quality: For years FORD vehicles haven't been dependable (technical-wise). FORD stands for: Fix.Or.Repair.Daily.
2.) Fuel-efficiency: Since gas prices have been going up the ying-yang, it may be difficult for consumers to purchase these "gas-guzzlers".
3.) Design: I think that the designers are going for that "import" look to sell. Not happening. I would have to agree with "BAGWELL" that the new SUV design is similar to the ACURAS RDX and NISSAN Murano.

NOTE: Please design something different...something out of the ordinary instead of copying the designs from other import car companies.
