Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR reportedly set to lose its top

Mercedes will more than likely eschew a folding hardtop roof in favor of a lightweight softtop to better fit the SLR's performance image - and not add any more weight than necessary. Mercedes won't be changing the 5.5-liter supercharged V8, but it is unclear if the convertible will get the 650 horsepower version that powers the SLR 722 or the 626 horsepower version from the standard SLR.

Interesting...they are going back to a rag top. I've never been a fan of hardtop convertibles. There is something about the rag top to me. It just makes for a sexier car to me. Top down proportions are just better. Either way I can't afford either SLR so I have to stick to the clk

same here, I only like 1 hard-top convertible, the SL. Rag-tops are better, I hope merc and audi stick with them for the clk and the A5 convertible (replaces the a4 convertible). BMW is going hardtop crazy though, going to put one on the z4 probably.
