Audi Confims It will Have A Mini Competitior

It looks like Volkswagen's Brussels, Belgium assembly plant will be getting a new product to build, now that Golf production has shifted back to Wolfsburg. Audi's new CEO Rupert Stadler has confirmed plans to build a new entry level A1 model, presumably to compete with the Mini. Audi is projecting volumes of 100,000 annually, beginning in 2009.

I think the serious competitor to the Mini is the new Volvo C30. This car market will really expand with Audi's version.

The C30 is a competitor for the A3 and the 1 series, not the mini.

Heyhuub, I kind of agree with jt that the Volvo is more of a Mini competitor, because it only comes with two doors. In a way, the V50 wagon is a (distant) competitor to the 1 and A3 more than the C30 is.

I don't see the point of Audi trying to compete with BMW in this segment. The Mini brand has plenty of history which is basically where its success comes from now. If they want to build a competitor let someone else in the VW group compete with it. I love Audi but I don't get this strategy...?? VW makes a Phaeton - and Audi makes a Mini..?? Doesn't make sense to me. Audi should focus on vehicles with high profit margins instead. Though I have a feeling this vehicle will not be sold in the U.S. - only in Europe and Asia.
