Does the new Audi A5 Coupe obsolete another Audi?

I'd agree that the A5 will likely cannibalize sales of existing Audi models - just as the Q7 has caused a collapse in A6 sales.

However I'm not sure the victim will be the TT, I suspect it will be 6 cylinder versions of the A4 that will suffer.

I agree, the A4 3.2Q will lose some sales to the A5's more attractive lines. The model that would really suffer would be the S4 and RS4 if there was a S5 or RS5 offered. I think alot of the buyers of the S4 and RS4 would have opted for a coupe if given the option.

it might hurt the A4 alittle, but overall it will help. When people are looking for a car in this segment, say 3 series,c-class, or A4, the other 2 had a coupe version and sedan. ( 3 series coupe and sedan, c-class and clk)Audi never had this and it hurt them overall, the more models you have the more you have to offer to the public.When a buyers was looking , if he/she decided they wanted a coupe, audi was out of the question, so it should help overall.
It looks awesome, so it should sell well.

The A5 is NOT HIGHER THAN THE A4 IN AUDI'S LINEUP. It's the A4 COUPE, as I've had to point out to about 80% of the people on this website. It will be priced a few thousand dollars more than the sedan version, just like the 3 Series coupe, but it will still be purely an A4 two-door (with sexier styling).

They don't compete one bit. It's as easy as choosing between a sedan or coupe.

S4- it will hurt the A4 a little, but help Audi overall. i just got my 3rd audi, A4 3.2 S-line, but if this was out, it would have been a tough choice between the coupe and sedan.

It's true Americans prefer SUVs to sedans/wagons. This is why the Q7 has taken away some A6 sales.

the A6 sales are less because audi is not spending money to try and sell it and MB and BMW have been giving their cars away in this segment

The A5 is sized to BMW 6 series proprtions.Quite a bit larger then the TT. I therefore think it is hitting a different market place.The TT is going after Boxster/Cayman and Z4 sales. Does the 6 series BMW cannibalize sales of the 5 series? I doubt it is affected too much.

IT'S AN A4 COUPE. IT DOES NOT COMPETE WITH THE 6 SERIES, IT COMPETES WITH THE 3 SERIES.

Both are beautiful. I am sure they will be fine. The TT goes on sale in about a month and the A5 in more than 1/2 a year or so.

No, I like the look of the Audi RS4 than the this A5, the RS4 look very aggressive and sporty.

The A5 won't cannibalize sales at all. Much bigger and espensive than an A4. If anything, the A5 is practically an A6 coupe with respect to its proportions. A6 buyers are completely different than the GT sport coupe buyers. TT is way too small for it to be affected.

Look at it this way:

A4 <-> TT
a6 <-> A5

And nobody gets hurt ;)

the A5 is based on the next generation A4(B8) platform. It will replace the A4 cabrio when it comes out in cabrio form.

This new A5 is probbably the same size as the 6-series as it competes with it. I can't wait for the release of the A4 coupe & convertible.

The only other Audi car would have obsolete is the late A4 coupe. The TT is not meant for the same market.

Maybe an S5/RS5 could possibly cannibalize some S4/RS4 sales, but it's not an issue since S/RS models are only high profits/niche market cars.
