Fearless Yacht by Porsche Design fitted with a 550Hp Dodge Viper V10 engine
We’ll totally agree with the chaps over at Gizmodo that the Fearless Yacht 28 makes a Porsche 911 look like a soulless “tonka truck”. This extremely sensuous, one-of-a-kind superboat which made its debut this week at the Miami Boat Show was designed by Porsche Design for Florida-based Fearless Yachts. Even though we’d find it more appropriate to see a Carrera GT V10 in this 28-foot-long high-speed cruiser, I’m pretty sure that the 550Hp Dodge Viper V10 motor won’t leave anyone begging for more power.

Torque is king when it comes to boats. It takes the power of a big displacement V8, V10, or V12 to get a boat up on plain in a hurry. Marine engines are also under constant load (boats don't coast well) so they need to be durable. Better still would be blown versions of any of the above. Turbocharging gets pretty hot for a boat's engine bay, but it's been done before. Turbine power works pretty well but what you save in engine weight, you more than make up for in fuel storage because they burn fuel at such a high rate. Diesels are the best but cost a lot to buy, sometimes tripling the cost of a boat. I don't think I've ever seen the Viper V10 in a marine application before but I'm sure It works well. I think the truck V10 engine would be more durable however.

The carerra GT's engine wouldn't last one day on the water, keep in mind boats have 1 forward gear. Most gas inboards use Vortec V8 blocks. I've never heard of a V10 or V12 marine engine

Lamborghini makes a really nice 12cyl marine engine. You should hear it! I saw a 50ft Hustler once with 3 of them in it. Talk about getting attention at the marina!

550HP for a 28 foot boat? Are we suposed to be impressed? I think that is a high average. Check out any whale watching boat on the west coast around the same size and they usually have two outboard motors that would equal 450 to 500HP. Are you still impressed?

Why doesn't it have a 550hp Porsche engine? LOL.

And this really isn't that powerful, no.
