2007 GENEVA AUTO SHOW-It's official-Next BMW M3 to debut in Geneva

2007 GENEVA AUTO SHOW-It's official-Next BMW M3 to debut in Geneva
At the upcoming Geneva Motor Show BMW will show a concept car of the new M3 Coupe. However, the production version – for release this summer - will look in various details different from the concept, as can be seen on these prototype shots.

While the concept car has the license plate in the lower bumper area, it will show up in the production model between the taillights in the boot lid, as before.

However, the new M3 coupe will not be all – BMW will extend the model range further by the steel roofed convertible in spring 2008 and a first time four door version of the M3, this one for launch by the end of 2008.

The cars will get power from a powerful 4,0 litre V8 420 HP engine, accelerating in 4,6 sec. to 100 km/h.

I wish the M3 looks more aggressive. But, the engine numbers are perfect. Can't wait for this car to come out. 2007 is going to be a wanderful year.

The pictures here are photoshops and not the final M3. The bonnet bulge has been photoshopped poorly and plus the M3 will not have fog lights.

I thought there was already a 4 door M3 a generation or two back.

The new M3 will be cool indeed. Can't wait for the first M3/ISF comparison test.

From what I see here the M3 is damn near perfect.

BMW does it again and again and again.

The new M3 will seriously pwn just about any other car. I'm betting most manufacturs are bracing themselves and waiting for reviews to see just how high the bar is being raised.

Doubtful that manufacturers would take the luxury to wait that long. Their engineers are probably hard at work to surpass numbers that are already floating around.

I've ALWAYS like the M3 but I feel that BMW still has some fine tuning that needs to be done on the body of this car, (especially the back). The wheels look to small for an M3 and 420 HP will not cut it for the next 6 or so years of this cars life.

Thanks agent 001.
The full engine spec as the article mentioned has not been finalised yet. Like I mentioned in another post, there is a 10% variability between the concept and the production car.
With regards to performance, the M3 has its eyes set in the 911 and the AM V8, so that should tell us a lot about the potential of this car.
Remember, if they can keep the weight below 3500 lbs( which is a challenge), the 420 HP is more than adequate.
Just wait and see.

The IS350 has a great body, but the IS-F ruins it with the repulsive hood and tacky side scoops.

agree that the IS350 is a nice looking car. IS-F is a monster. no contest between the M3 and the IS-F when it comes to styling. M3 is hands-down the better looking car. can't wait to drive it.

i agree and so did my friends. We did see the IS-F in person in Chicago at the black tie event . The overall judgement is it looks like a civic on steroids. Nothing fits styling wise on that car. They should have left the side scoops and stacked exhausts at home.

There won't be much of a weight gain with this new M3 since the new V8 will weigh about the same as the outgoing inline six.

With that power/weight ratio, the car could reach 60 mph in the low 4's.

I just wish the car would look slightly more aggressive.

Regardless, still the benchmark for sporty coupes.

This new M3 will definitely have some serious performance number. But to bad, it really UGLY when compare to the Lexus IS-F, Audi RS4 and the new G35.

How is the IS-F good-looking? I've said the IS350 is- and it is. But the IS-F...?

agree with the S4 ..... News Flash, the G35 couldnt even beat out the 2006 330 sedan!! Have you even driven the G35? Once you do, go drive a 335. The 335 kills the G35 in every which way. Again the IS-F, looks like someone asked a 18yr old kid to build him a car.

Ok, I am a "German FanBoy", but I LOVE the EVO. I am thinking about getting an EVO IX MR right now. I like the looks of the X, but DSG doesn't sit well with me. The GTI DSG is great, but I want to shift myself. I hear there will be a 5 speed available, but with a turbocharged engine with as much lag as the EVO has, you pretty much need all 6 speeds.

I can't wait. Perhaps I'll be one of the lucky few who get to choose between these beasts.

Let the M3 vs. RS4/RS5 vs. C63 AMG vs. IS-F vs. CTS-V fight begin!

Everyone's forgotten about the new CTS-V, BTW...

AdmiralT20AdmiralT20 - 2/21/2007 10:54:41 PM

From the latest info, the segment is going to be interesting
The Cl63 AMG will have the same 6.3 litre V8 with 517 HP @ 6800 rpm and 467 ft.lbs of Torque.
The problem with the Cl63 AMG is that it will weigh 4376 lbs, making it do the 0-60 sprint in 4.6
Of all the German carmarkers, the RS4 might end up being the slowest of the 3.
How the IS-F and the CTS-V will fair is something we will have to wait and see. I wonder when Lexus will release the full specs of the IS-F?

admiral- i believe you mean the C63 not Cl, also no way the C63 AMG will have 512 HP, more like 450HP-480HP.

Also the RS4 has done 0-60 in 4.3 sec, so the 4.6 you mentioned for the C63 would make it the slowest. But its not out yet so we have no clue

Thanks JmrA480.
The C63 AMG will not be 517. I believe that will detuned, and from the press release earlier, it will be in the 450+ HP realm. The question to be asked of the C63AMG will be the weight. sincerely hope they can keep it below 4000 lbs- but that seems to be wishful thinking.

I dunno, but with how the ISF and RS5 concept look like, this M3 may very well be the least aggressive looking. I mean, the engine is way better, but the body is practically the same with very little changes. I dont' like it so far.

it is so surprising at times that the so called "motoring journalists" lack information. There was an E36 M3 4 door made in South Africa.

E90335i surprised me yesterday when he said only the 328i(E46) was made in SA for the US market. I was working for BMWSA in 2001/2002 and all available engines were fitted in all the models destined for the US.318i.....330i and 330d

for the last four years at least the only BMW's made in South Africa that came to the U.S. were E46 325i's and E90 328i's. They might make other cars there but for vehicles they brought over to the U.S. it was/is only the rear drive, base engine sedans.

Exactly right, Bulldogz. And what about the 911. It would be highly embarrasing if the M3 matched or beat the 911 Carrera on the track....

super- if your talking about the base 911, then yes the M3 should have better performance numbers, it will have over 90+ hp more, the RS4 has better numbers then the base 911. i think c&D or road and track did a comparo between the RS4 and carerra 4s, and the 4s barely beat the RS4, but does that mean the 4S is not worth its price, no, the 4S is an amazing car.

The Mercedes competitor to the M3 would be the 4dr C63 and the 2dr CLK63, (the latter is already on MBUSA.com with 475hp). The CLK63 comes with a hefty price tag, much higher then the competition.

It's hard to imagine how anybody can even compare the current RS4 to the upcoming M3.

The M3 will make the same horsepower minus 500 lbs.

There's no comparison to be made, the M3 will set the standard once again.
