Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz GLK testing in snow

Seems like Mercedes-Benz is still hard at work getting the GLK ready to fight the BMW X3. The SUV was caught testing in the snow in Scandinavia. New information confirms that the entry level will be a 2.1 liter with 2-wheel-drive along with three V6 petrol and diesel engine variants.

It is also specualted that there will be a V8 engine producing 400 horsepower. The full range will include:

• GLK 280
• GLK 350
• GLK 63 AMG
• GLK 220 CDI
• GLK 320 CDI

I sat in the new X3 at the Chicago Auto Show last week, and surprisingly, I was very impressed. It's much better than the old one, and it's a convincing proposition if I'm forced to buy a small SUV for my next winter car.

However, I'd rather have a 3 Series coupe or A5/S5... :-D

There is no point of a GLK. Mercedes yet again trying to capture every market in the auto industry and of course slapping on a powerful AMG tuned engine to the line. As if they needed anymore. Mercedes is my favorite brand but this is getting ridiculous.

Yes there is, with the Acura, BMW and Audi Q5 coming MB better get with the program and get a small SUV out if they want to compete.

I'll bet Lexus comes out with one too!

There's also the possibility of the Infiniti IX (if Lexus doesn't steal that name first for their small 'ute), the small Lexus, the Tiguan, and the Volvo XC50/XC60 (I think they should call it XC60).

This is a rapidly expanding market, and although the R-Class and even CLS (to a certain extent) seem ridiculous, the others really aren't.

I hope they at least make it look better than the M Class which is visually a complete zero, not Aztec bad but close. I saw one in NorCal two weeks ago without any badges on the rear, (the owner removed them?) and I mistook it for a low end Korean import...really quite bad. Its amazing what a simple badge does for an image...the M is in need of a mid life model refresh badly...

This is a waste of time for Mercedes they need to take a long hard look at their company and re-evaluate their company as a whole. They need to stop trying to spread themselves so thin.
