With the Lexus rapid acceleration in the U.S. marketplace, most of us probably would assume they would be the number one choice to be leading the industry in 5 year sales gains. Actually you would be wrong if you did.

While Lexus has maintained a stellar growth chart for the last 5 years, both Porsche and Infiniti outpaced the giant over a 5 year span starting in 2002.  Infiniti’s remarkable performance is in spite of a drop of over 11% in sales from 2005 due to a stagnated model line up.  With new models finally in the pipeline Infiniti sales should pick up and continue forward at a blistering rate for 2007.

A startling revelation actually for the Spies  was the astonishing fall from grace of Jaguar with a 66.21% drop in sales over the last 5 years.  In 2002 Jaguar’s sales were almost triple that of Porsche only to fall to 60% of the volume a mere 5 years later.

Overall the sector in general grew an admirable 17.82% over the 5 year span in spite of the overall automotive market actually dropping almost 2% for the same time frame.

Well folks let's call Infiniti's growth "blistering" for its average increase of 37.81% a year, while Lexus [from a dramatically larger base] languishes with only 37.73% a year!

blistering run rate is what they're referring to. lexus and infiniti average the same over 4 years despite an awful year for infiniti in 2005. in other words, infiniti must currently be growing at far more than 37% in order to pull the average up that high. so, yes, they must be having a blistering year so far...somewhere well up into the 40s.

Clearly, the next 5 years will be even more telling than the last 5.
It is apparent if Infiniti wants to suceed, there will have to have a two pronged attack to show its prominence as a bonafide player as a premium luxury manufacturer.
At one end of the spectrum, the will easily excel as the "japanese BMW" and continue to give Germany a run for their money with the G-35 vs. the 3 series,....a more legitimate contender than Lexus or even other european brands !!
On the other end, Infiniti must commit to taking on Lexus' uptapped competition as the luxury soft, quiet problem free manufacturer from the East, to really have credibility as an asian front-runner and nameplate to be recognized.
I doubt whether we will have to wait 5 years to see if they can do it,....but I will tell you this much,....it wont be Sir Carlos at the helm,.....but yet an unnamed insider who is being groomed to be the next automotive antichrist, if you will.
BMW and Lexus will cry religious heresy if Infiniti can mount, capture, and takeover each of their respective niches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 years is a very short long time.

dr. Infiniti

percentage comparisons are only relevant when you're using comparable bases... the company to beat is definitely lexus.

it's also sad how far jag has fallen...

it is sad. but jag on has good product on the high end....XK and XJ. in order to be profitable, they've got to come up with product to compete in the entry-level categories where every other luxury brand has strong sellers.

Doesn't this erode the exclusivity of Porsche?

Porsche has no exclusivity in the states IMO. It has the badge though.

The increase in sales is mostly due to the introduction of the Cayenne.

jaugar is doing awful, im not surprised about infiniti though, thats who i thought it was, they have really turned there line up around, the interior materials still fall short, but you cant beat 306hp and that kind of performance, at that price in a luxury car, good job infiniti

I just got home from Trader Joes in Irvine,Ca and I was parked to a new Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet and on the way out I saw a young Asian lady pull in driving a silver Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet.

Also saw 2 new BMW 7 Series too!

Does it matter that she was Asian?

I'm not, but that doesn't mean I'm racist.

It doesn't matter if the young lady was Asian, Mexican, African or white like EL34, but you can't deny the fact it gets pretty damn boring talking to one another on the web without some interesting details.

BTW, she was a hot.

Everyone feels for Jaguar because they are kinda exclusive. Every rapper, movie star, singer, athlete drives a Benz, Bimmer, Lexus, Caddie, and etc. But hardly anyone mentions Jaguar. The only program I have seen to showcase many Jaguars is Gilmore Girls with the rich grand-parents having XJ and S type. Also they have the S-class and E-class. Quite interesting. Bit yeah the future models that Jaguar brings are hot and no executive in some Armani suit is going to spoile that design..At least I hope

Jaguar lost so much because everything they have currently is old. The new XJ looks old. The new XK is a good start, the XF will probably be good as well. But currently the X Type and the S Type are old geazers.

The XK loses sales because it has a cloth roof, and for its length has too little interior space.

I'm now pulling for the underdog Jaguar.

Jaguar Marketing should just be reruns of TOP GEAR and Clarkson praising all things JAG with his biased infotainment.

Yesterday I saw the new MB C-class Avantgarde at the Mercedes plant in Sindelfingen/Germany.
It was a diesel, but with the AMG package.
The new one looks much better than the previous C-class.
I think the new C-class will sell much better than the previous version.
