If you were a betting man, you would say Toyota, and you would be correct. But who is number two, Honda?

No, it actually is Lexus.

It seems that being a part of a Lexus franchise is getting to be a really lucrative proposition as of late. Actually in December 2006 Lexus franchises outsold even Toyota to be the number one selling franchise in the gift giving month.

The top ten for January rounded out with Chevrolet, the lone domestic in the top 10, in a distant last place. Mustering only 36 cars and truck sold on average per franchise, Chevrolet was even out stripped by Hyundai averaging 55 vehicles sold in January.

BMW and Mercedes Benz also proved they can play with the big boys in the Japanese dominated market, by placing 5^th and 7^th respectively for the month.

how many franchises does lexus have in the US? The number is a little skewed by how high it is. If I am not mistaken BMW has 405 dealers in the US

All depends on number of dealerships. The domestics have many, many times more dealerships. They are trying to cut down on the number.

Well when I took total Lexus Sales for the month and divided it by the number of sales per franchise I get 212...

I agree with some of the comments above .
What is the given density of Franchises for each brand in the U.S.
Are those nos. for new vehicle sale or also include 2nd hand cars being sold by dealers.
Furthermore, its common knowledge that MB has the highest TP (transaction Price) per unit. How does that figure in? A good way to say who rocked the house would be to post last year sales alongside.

e.g. 4 ferrari's being sold would far outwiegh 15 saab's . etc Plus an oil change in a Ferrari costs $1500+ so the dealership isnt ever going to o broke.

Anyway my congrats to ToyoLex for a fantastic year. They have worked their way to the top with their Kaizen culture. What can i say but .. "Me Likeee"

Correction : MB has teh largest TP for a MASS manufacturer.

Boutique car manufacturer's like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Bugatti etc. have some of the highest TP

Lexus only has 228 dealers in the US and BMW has 405 ... That definitely helps with the average .. This forum is skewed. They should be classified by dealer numbers. If BMW only had 228 dealers, then they would have averaged about 160 ...

I like the articles for the most part on here, but sometimes they are so biased one way or the other to support a particular brand and such. Especially, when the figures are skewed by not providing the information or the rest of the story. Why not express the averages based in groups of the amount of dealers to put in more of a perspective and such. dealers from 100 to 200 , 201 to 300 and so on. This would be so much more accurate in regards to info, but take alot more work

Yep and if Lexus had 405 dealers total Lexus sales would skyrocket - since many folks don't buy a Lexus because they would have to drive too far for scheduled maintenance.

Merc basher that is not true. In chicago for example, the dealer agreement is for a BMW dealer with 12 miles of the next ... They prefer to have dealers that only sell 8 to 10 a month. When I worked for BMW in Texas, dallas area, there are only 4 within about a 150 mile radius ... In fact there are more Lexus dealers per BMW dealers ... More often than not, Lexus prefers to have larger dealers vs the smaller dealers that BMW has. That is why they sell more per dealer. If BMW would take that to note, then the average would be higher. The BMW dealers that only average 8 to 10 cars per month are also grouped with VW, GM, Ford & chrysler products. Personally, I think it is a waste of time to have such small dealers ...

Yes what I said is true BMW4me4ever. I just ordered a BMW, and last year bought a Toyota for the family and in both cases I would probably have bought a Lexus if the Lexus dealership were not so far away. The BMW dealer and the Toyota dealer are within 10 minutes and the Lexus dealer can take 60-90 minutes to reach in rush hour.

Did anyone notice that Ferrari sold 2x more cars that Isuzu per dealer... Man, can you imagine working at that dealership... one car every 15 days... At least w/ Ferrari you get to look at Ferraris all day.
