Report: Toyota to build plant in Mississippi

Toyota has reportedly picked Mississippi to build a new plant that will begin productions of Toyota sports utility vehicles in 2010. Wall Street Journal reported Monday evening, citing sources from Japan, that the company will confirm the selection of Mississippi on February 27th at a board meeting. The Nikkei, a Japanese business newspaper, said on its Web site Monday that Toyota had picked Mississippi for an $880 million sports utility vehicle plant.

The report said that Toyota will begin producing the new 2008 Toyota Highlander at the plant while the SUV will be half way through its life cycle. We also suspect that Toyota will eventually build the recently spied Toyota Land Cruiser as well as Lexus SUVs.

stop being so snide, mr. bill.

yes, toyota is out to make money like any other business. but they also realize that being a good corporate citizen CAN add to the bottom line too. not to mention "spreading the wealth" by hiring american workers.

unlike the germans, toyota is able to get QUALITY PRODUCTS out of american workers. and unlike the big 2.5, they can be price competitive paying american (vs. mexican or canadian) wages.

Funny how you Toyota folks always talk about quality products. German cars are quality products, even if their reliability isn't up to Toyota standards. There is a difference between quality and reliability that you folks always seem to ignore.

And I'd say the BMW Z4, X5 and Mercedes ML and GL are pretty high quality products in their own right despite being made in America. The quality control at both BMW's and Mercedes' American plants has improved greatly.

funny how the german fan boys seem to not be aware that reliability is AN INTEGRAL COMPONENT of quality.

would rolex watches, fancy as they are, have acquired its reputation if they were NOT reliable?
