Geneva Motor Show Preview: Jaguar XJ unveiled

Looks terrible. The old design may have been dated but at least it was classic. This looks like some cheesy cheap after market kit.

I have to agree 100%. The old body is classic and really does not need a 21st Century refresh...now it just looks... ricey! D'oH!

ooops....not ricey (although the side gills are pretty ricey), but rather cheesy.

Oh my goodness! I hate to say it but it's grotesque. They have started to change things toward the 1960's XJ in a stylistic sense; meaning Ian Callum probably had something to do with it.

Oh! The closer you get the uglier it gets. I want to see the new [redesigned] XJ and I desperatly want to like it, but when things like this come out I find it very disturbing and it worries me a bit.

Oh hell! AHhhh! What manner of lunacy is this! It also has those cheap looking side mirrors. Someone said this before, but they look like they came off of a Volvo.

Front bumper looks like the BMW's M(M5,M6).

BTW the 5.0l V8 supercharge is very impressive.
Hope it comes soon in the XK.That'll definately rival the Ferraris,Astons,BMWs...etc

Modern updates on old designs in many cases don't work. I would have grafted the CXF grill on to the front. It would have at least looked better with the spoilers grafted on. The XF cannot come out soon enough!

Maybe it will grow on me. Like fungus :)

AND, why is Jag scrwewing with names too...what was wrong with XJ8 or XK8?

I agree, this "update" is horrible. A complete waste of precious budget and man-power which could have been better used elsewhere.

Horrible! No, no, no, no, no!!!

This was a classic, beautiful design. The bumpers look utterly horrendous, the double-badge is a cheap attempt to copy Mercedes, they ruined the rear end, and the intakes don't go with the car at all.

And yet, the interior looks exactly the same. This is the part that SHOULD'VE been changed- not the exterior!

After the brilliant XK's integration of modern and classic styling cues in one sexy convertible, I expected so much more from Jaguar, even in a minor refresh.

Wow! after seeing the Jaguar C-XF, this XJ is very dispointing. Can this XJ get any uglier? come on what are they thinking.

But, the question is...can Jag dealers hang in there until it arrives? People do not buy cars now based on what is coming in several years..ususally.

The Jaguar C-XF is present is just stunning if you ask me. The reason why the C-XF look so good is that the designer that design it, use to work for Aston Martin.

The same person who designed the XK, C-XF and Aston Martin DB9 (Ian Callum) also penned the refresh for this car. I guess he's not so good with refreshes!

...Either that or he is not so good with production sedans…

Looking at this picture I can’t help but ask how many people have seen the movie “Cars”?

I am not sure that I can maintain my hope that the new XJ won't disappoint me. The interior sounds very interesting, but I am worried about the exterior. I don’t want it to loose its uniqueness. Jaguars as of now have very distinct and different styling relative to most cars which have a short front and high reared wedge shape to them. Jags are very different.

Truthfully, I was not impressed with the C-XF as a Jaguar. I would be fine for other companies but rubbed me the wrong way as a Jag. If the XJ is like that then it will loose a lot of its uniqueness.

If this hideous thing was ever allowed to have a Jaguar leaper put on it and the same people are in control of the next vehicle’s design, then I am worried.

I have to disagree with the majority, it looks great.

Regardless of that bumper and grill I still think it's a classy looking car for the ultra wealthy. It has British inspiration funded by American paper but it still looks prestige. The ride is still comfortable with up to date luxury ammenities but it has lost a lot of street credit to Audi/BMW/Mercedes and even the LS. It's a shame.... I would still consider something like this if I didn't care about performance as much. Luxury wise it still got it.

You'd be surprised. All though it can't quite keep up with the competiton in terms of 0-60 (XJ8), the handling is superb. The car is vastly underrated.

By the way, I believe the XJR is just above $80,000. It's a bargain, and it can EASILY keep up with the competition.

Oh I don't doubt it can't perform or handle well, i've seen it. It's definitely a bargain and I agree with you on it being underrated. It looks the part too of a high end BRITISH luxury saloon. It has all the pedigree to hold it's own image.

I happen to drive an XJ, thank you very much. It is true redesign in 2004 is not as pretty as the previous model: that is simply by virtue of the modified proportions. The real things that I don't like is the interaction of the exterior headlight with the body: there is something about it which seems less substantial.

I find this, to be frank about it, hideous. There is almost no other word for it.

terrible. I just have to wait for the 2010 replacement.
