SPY SHOTS: Audi S5 Caught In The Flesh
Our friends over at German Car Scene just posted a series of shots of the S5 Coupe caught in front of the Audi Museum. It really looks like this is a winner for Audi.

Audi, do not change the perfectly designed headlights!

The LED driving lights are amazing, I have seen the S6 with those. You can really see them from far away.

Looks better in a darker colour than the official leaked pics did in silver, although I've never liked the ridiculously expensive to replace aluminium wing mirrors, I don't think they suit the cars.

I've never had to replace my mirrors, so I haven't had that experience.

they never have to be replaced and they are just painted mirrors

They're in the headlights instead of the foglights. Look closely.

Maybe a Toyota Solora perhaps? Looks nice though. Headlights a bit too much.

The car is a beauty. I still don't understand why it "only" has 350hp though. The RS cars are known for being over the top - so the S should be on the level of the M from BMW. Case in point - when the RS6 came out a few years ago it overstepped the power of the M5. When the RS4 debuted the other day - it way overstepped the M3. Is Audi getting too comfortable? Why is the base A5 only going to have 265hp? That would be the weakest in it's class. Even the VW Passat with a more powerful V6. Audi makes superb cars - but I just don't understand the engine options for this car.

chewychewy - 2/28/2007 7:10:14 PM

The BMW 328 has only 230 hp and a pathetic 200 lb-ft of torque. Audi has 265 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque.

The back looks like the new BMW 3 series coupe, and the front is just the same old Audi grill. Nothing new about the car.

It looks beautiful... MUCH better than Audi's press release. They don't know how to stage pictures!

Designer1, you forgot to mention how sweet the body is. Much curvier than my car.

audiman .. why would you say that? The Audi is a nice car, but how well will the A5 with the same price point compete with the 335 coupe. Not very well. Plus, have to sit inside and see if it actually fits 4 adults comfortably. My 335 coupe fits me and my friends very comfortable. I am 6'2" and my girlfriend is 5'10" ... there is still plenty of room in the back seat. I love my 335 coupe. Hands down for the money, there is not anything in the luxury segment even close

true that it will be a tough sell against the 335i coupe. pricing/lease deals will be a big driver of success. the A5 has got to come in under the 335i. might also do well among people who don't won't to drive the same car as everyone else. however, still leaning toward 335i myself.

I love them both. They're so beautiful, so tempting. I don't know which one I'd get-- I'll test drive both thoroughly.

BMW4me4ever, you're missing one thing. The A5 will be on the new MLP (modular platform). This is a first for Audi. What is it? Well, it gives the car less of a front overhang, moving the wheels forward and the engine being pushed behind the front axle. This will give the car greatly improved handling and balanced-- making it feel like a RWD car and giving the 3 Series some serious performance competition.

This platform will be incorporated across Audi's entire lineup in the future, so get ready.

If they can make the RS4 what is quite possibly the best-driving sedan in the world WITHOUT MLP, imagine what they can do with this!

S4 .. BMW has been doing that for years. If you look at the engine of a BMW, you will see it is recessed behind the axle of the front wheels. This enables BMW to provide a more direct steering feel and angle. Most BMW's do not have a lot of overhang . I just think that Audi is going to price this car over $46 to 49k and will price there car out of the market in the US> Especially, if they use that price configuration on the bast A5. I have 2007 335 coupe with the sport package, and pound for pound it is the best performance coupe that I have ever driven for the value of it. In regards to a sedan, the RS4 is really tough to beat. That is a awesome car. I was able to drive one extensively, partly due to my brother being a top Audi Mechanic.

BMW4ever4me- S4 knows that the BMW engine is further back then Audi's, what he's saying is that Audi is moving the engine back and that the overhang over the wheels was the one knock that experts had on Audi.
What he was saying is that even with the overhang Audi was still close to BMW in the Handling Department( BMW handling is better but Audis' was not bad), know with the overhang gone, Audis' handling is gonna get alot better and probaly be on par if not better then BMW.

Now we have to wait and see if this is true but its definitly gonna help Audis' handling.

And on the RS4 and M3, the numbers are gonna be so close, its gonna come down to personal preference- i.e. Do u like Audi/BMW, quattro vs RWD.

Guys,

I'm really like the new BMW 3-series coupe and how the lines flow. But this S5, i am lost for words. Those headlights are mean looking which gives it that aggressive stance. I heard it's larger than the 3 series and it's in a different range. Anyone hear news about it? Has the price been released yet?

Buy your son a cheap run-about you tosser.

teach him the value of money, otherwise he will grow up to be a socially-inept brat.

An A5 for a first car? Absolute madness.

Audi says late fall for the manuals, so Nov/Dec. Autos 4-6 months after that.

first off this will be under 80k, not even close probaly 60k. and i dont care if your bill gates, you dont buy your kid a 80k to 100k car as his first car.
Do you want him dead in the first 2 months he has it?
Dont you want to teach him the value of a dollar, go by him an A4,3 series and tell him to suck it up.

I hope your post was a joke
