Top 8 Crossovers - a breed of half-car, half-SUV
So what are crossovers? We’ve received emails on this before asking us what category’s do crossovers really fit in? Well, its not so much understanding what a crossover really is, its knowing what the benefits of crossovers are knowing they don’t offer as much room as SUVs. Crossovers, to us are basically half-car and half-SUV vehicles that offer better gas-mileage than SUV, better handling and a smoother ride than an SUV while offering just a tad bit more room than your four-door sedan.

Crossovers are huge hit with consumers, especially women, and they are now rushing out and buying these hafl-car, half SUV vehicles. Here is CNN Money’s Top 8 Crossover list.

It reads more like the Bottom 8 Crossovers, they left out the top three:

  • Infiniti FX

  • Lexus RX

  • BMW X3 (if you can get past its looks)

Are you trying to sound like a brat?
Because, no offense, you are.
Do you think the common man can afford those crossovers? And their sales are so low compared to the others, so it dosen't matter.

The title of the article was Top 8, not The 8 Most Affordable. And the cars I listed might be expensive as in cost to buy, but total cost of ownership is about the same as the rest if not less when you factor in free maintenance and vehicle depreciation. A BMW 3 years from now is going to be worth 60% of its original value, what's the Ford Edge going to be worth, 30%? I'll be generous and say 40%. So that $40,000 X3 costs you $16,000 for those 3 years. The Ford Edge costs ~$30,000 so in 3 years it will have cost you $18,000 - and that's before any maintenance costs.

But in any case, this is AutoSpies, we cater to the higher end car buyer so of course we'll be biased to the nicer cars ;)

really? You cater to high end buyers? I didn't know there was a VIP section of the internet.
And please show me where it says you explicitly cater to the high end car buyer. I don't see it anywhere.
So basically you are trying to discriminate?

Those crossovers are really out of the market they are more luxury crossovers Agent004. And i saw the Ford Edge and simply blown away. It better then it looks in the pictures. And its big the trunk is huge! They did a good job with it. Rav4 not so great really it looks skinny n has no room. CRV is really good looking better then the old gen for sure. And isnt the Mercury Mariner a compact suv?

I sure won't complain about any list that puts a Toyota at the top, but it sure seems random. What kind of criteria are they using? The RAV is a great vehicle (and very roomy jt716, I dont what you're thinkin, maybe the last gen?). The rest of the list just doesnt make sense. Some small, some mid-sized; some new, some in desperate need of a make-over. Completely random.

jt716, the Edge is a form-over-function type of vehicle. It looks good, but it's completely medicore in EVERY other respect. It's not very quick, the interior is as cheap as ever, it has "also-ran" features (everyone has the big sunroof now- and the navi looks like it was teken from 1998), and I doubt that it's very comfortable.

Actually i was talking abt the current gen rav4. And the sunroof is actually a great and they do have the offer of having screen integrated in the headrest if you do want a dvd player. Most people do think its cheap n just an overpriced piece of plastic. But have you been in it? Did you drive it?I am not protecting ford but its one of the best vehicles since the fusion and i have notice is the most people think the product is cheaper then it is. Maybe the downside mite be the engine and the heavy weight. Over it is good quality and some experts liked even better then the now aging murano. And the satnav has been praised also.

No, you were talking about the Edge.

"And i saw the Ford Edge and simply blown away. It better then it looks in the pictures. And its big the trunk is huge!"

That's what I was replying to.

Why is the Mariner on the list over the Escape? But the new Edge is awesome and the Lincoln MKX looks amazing.
