Report: Mercedes and BMW to team up for premium hybrid

Ford just confirmed that they will be teaming up with Toyota to share some hybrid technology and today BMW and Mercedes have been reported to be talking on developing an upper-class hybrid within the next three years with a production model ready by 2010. Both comeptitors are looking to bring their knowledge and technology to the table in order to reduce the cost of development.

Both Mercedes and BMW already have been working on premium hybrid models with the 2005 Mercedes-Benz S-Class BLUETEC hybrid concept and the BMW Hydrogen 7.

I really don't think it's gonna happen.Where's the official statement?Who said that?
If Mercedes or BMW will decide to cooperate in order to cut costs i don't think it's gonna be with each other.

God forbid if the situation had been reversed. Toyota would be slammed for "copying" to no extent. It's always the same one-trick pony here: defend the Germans, deny any credit to the Japanese.

For a while now, comments on the Germans going hybrid have been about trying to "cash in on the market," but with more and more of them making plans for hybrids, I think we can all agree that this is not the case.

I will believe a German hybrid when I see it. I can't believe Porsche and the others won't come to their senses before going down the path of billions of dollars on an investment with little return.

Toyota/Lexus soon (2008-2009) will put out its 3rd generation hybrid system using Li-ion battery. 2009 Prius will have at least 9 mile commute range in EV mode.

The upcoming LS600hL AWD will have 25+mpg combined, 450hp, 0-60mph 4.5s.
