Mercedes-Benz USA Reports 17,304 New Vehicle Sales in February

MONTVALE, N.J., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today
reported its February sales of 17,304 new vehicles, a marginal decrease
from February 2006 (MBUSA's highest February on record). This brings
MBUSA's year-to-date total to 34,373 new vehicles, an increase of 15.2
percent over the same period in 2006.

Passenger car sales totaled 11,890 units
, with the company's volume model lines C- and E-Class leading the pack for a combined 30.9 percent
increase over February 2006 (6,921 v. 5,286). Highlights for the month also
included a 12.8 percent increase in volume for the M-Class family of luxury
light trucks (2,431 v. 2,155) and a 212.7 percent increase in sales of the
unique luxury SUV G-Class (172 v. 55).

Sales for Mercedes vehicles in the luxury light truck segment continue
to exhibit a strong performance as a group with a 15.7 percent increase
over February 2006.

Separately, the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned vehicle program
reported sales of 3,910 units, an increase of 13 percent compared to last
February, bringing the year-to-date total to 7,519 units, a 15.2 percent
increase over the same period in 2006.

Wow watch the R class plummet.

The S Class decline is presumably because Lexus LS is now the best selling large luxury sedan.

Incredible that despite lots of new models in the last year or two MB actually had a sales decline in February.

I'd say that's more important than a "minor decease" in February.

And, as for the R-Class? We hate it too. It's the ugliest car (if you can call it a "car") in their lineup, and they're basically forcing them on unsuspecting victims.

The S-Class... I'd say that's because the majority of S-Classes sold are with RWD. Did the LS and 7 Series go down this month too? I wouldn't be surprised if they did. And saying the S's sales went down BECAUSE the LS went up is the oddest, least logical statement I've read this week. What?

Why would Merc not give away the C-Class. The new body will be out shortly and new 08 allocations will be based on how many 07's they sell. It would be crazy for MB to not to attempt to move all of these models on the lot.
