Porsche Hybrid Will Charge Into Oz

Only toyota fanboys believe hybrids will save the planet. Give me a Diesel over a hybrid everyday.

Apparently Porsche, BMW and MBZ have begun to believe it as well, adding them to the list of hybrid mfrs that now includes Honda, Nissa, GM, Ford and of course Toyota. Sounds like your thinking has some catching up to do.

BMW and Benz have responded with hybrids in order to offer some COMPETITION to Toyota. Nothing more.

Let us remember the Dust Bowl in central United States and Canada during 1931 thru 1939 and it was before the atomic bomb and very few cars at that time as well.

So what caused that radical climate change?

Oh I didn't know a Hydrogen powered car and a Bluetec diesel were actually hybrids.

I cant wait until technology meets the needs of the enthusiast driver, at a reasonable cost of course.

Yss but they are Toyota's numbers for a car that doesn't exist. I'm not saying they couldn't (I do think they are unlikely) but the numbers have no ground as the car isn't built yet, hasn't passed an tests, doesn't have any safety features or anything. I think it might get close-ish to those numbers but more like 360-370 hp, 5.0 secs, 27 mpg and a 40k price tag. 2009 is too close for such an advancement without higher cost to the consumer, unless Toyota plans on making a loss with it like Lexus in Europe. (Huge advertising budget, low sales)
What size is the engine supposed to be?

By 2009, the cost and size of Toyota hybrid system will be cut by half compared to the current system according to Toyota CEO. And Toyota engineer said the techniques are already there to build such a machine, the Future Toyota Hybrid Sports Car.

Think about it, the current heavy Lexus 450h with only 339hp can run 0-60 5.2s, average 26mpg in real world.

You can't ignore the work BMW and Merc have been doing with alternative energy for years. That and the engine technology which will help the petrol 1/2 of the hybrid to produce everything it can.

It just does not seem wise to shortchange some of the companies which are actually doing revolutionary things with engines.

With a hybrid, it's either green, mean, or both.
If Porsche, BMW or whomever can build a car that goes 0-60 faster they will. Maybe there will be a green to mean dial.

Should make a diesel or diesel hybrid. I think Audi will have a diesel sports car in a few years.
