Toyota Releases First TRD Branded Performance Car

Toyota Racing Development has been prepping Toyota’s race cars as well as its street cars for years. Designing and building TRD branded go-fast bits for cars such as the Supra or Celica. However, Toyota has never officially released a vehicle branded under the TRD label. This is set to change with the introduction of the Aurion TRD, which was unveiled yesterday at the Melbourne International Motor Show in Australia. The first time anywhere in the world Toyota is engineering and marketing a car under the TRD banner.

I'm not making judgements of the brand itself.

I don't know a single thing about TRD Performance, and honestly, I have no desire to learn.

But I did know that you (as in the Toyota fans) would make judgements about my post. I was considering not posting it. You'd take it too personally.

What? That thing?

Firstly, it looks as though Toyota looked at American sedans for its styling inspiration, especially the Lincoln Town Car-esque rear end. Not a good start.

Secondly, the interior looks like it was ripped from a Camry, except for the hideously large centre console. Yuck!

What a terrible looking car.

Sorry, as much as I don't like American cars, that Crown is just rubbish.

I prefer to think madness is liking that caricature of a Lincoln Town Car.

It looks like some last-minute attempt to ferry OPEC members around during a Toyko summit rather than a sane ownership proposition.

Who the hell wants a car that looks like that? That gaudy dashboard and dull and dreary interior seal the deal for me I'm sorry.

well the Crown i believe is marketed ONLY in japan. one can't expect toyota to style it to AMERICAN tastes. there are numerous other japan only cars that may not appeal to american tastes.

the same can be said for many cars sold only in europe.

so ignoring totally subjective, and regional, styles, i'm curious about the mechanical specs. being a toyota, i'm sure it is competitive for its class.

the toyota Century has NO competitors short of rolls royce and high end bmws and mbs. it comes with a v12, and was benchmarked against RR.
