Report: Toyota working on a plug-in hybrid

Toyota said today that it is working on developing a plug-in hybrid vehicle and is open to joining with other automakers in battery development. Automotive News reports that the statement was made by Toyota’s North American President. We’re speculating that Toyota will most likely work with Ford on this operation since Ford’s new CEO, Alan Mullay met with Toyota’s Chairman, Fujio Cho, back in December in order to discuss possibilities for the two companies to work together in moving forward in the hybrid technology market.

Now, in a recent interview with Japan’s Kyodo News, Mullay commented on working with Toyota on developing new environmental technologies that would benefit both companies.

American and other foreign automakers should really take advantage of Toyota basically taking the lock off the door to their technology department.

I hear battery Teck is improving by leaps and bounds! Lithium ion is almost old teck now.I like the idea of a plug in hybrid. Basicly an electric car with a gas backup incase you had a long road trip to drive.I would concider one. This would be great if they had solar panels in the windows and solar paint to recharge it! Less gas tax for the gov! They wouldn't like that!
