2008 Volvo XC70 Official

Simultaneously with the new V70, Volvo’s unveiling its crossover sibling, the 2008 XC70 at the 2007 Geneva Show. Like its predecessor, the XC70 is basically a higher V70 (+75mm) with 4x4 design elements like the scratchproof protective cladding around the wheelarches and the chunkier, redesigned bumpers.

Available in Europe from this fall (US should get it a few months later), the XC70 will be offered with two motors, a 238Hp 3.2-litre straight six-cylinder petrol and a 185Hp 2.4-litre five-cylinder D5 turbo diesel. Available with Geartronic transmission only, the 3.2 accelerates from 0 to 60mph (96km/h) in 8.1 sec and achieves a 215km/h - 134mph top speed. The D5 is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed Geartronic transmission. With the manual “tranny” the D5 accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds reaching a maximum speed of 130 mph – 209 km/h.

The front headlights look so much like the lights of the A4. But I do think this looks a lot better. The lines flow better as well. The whole car is just more attractive, plain and simple. I also think that if wood replaced the slabs of aluminum it would make the car more luxurious (especially black interior and wood).

The new Volvo S80 I believe has new commercials out marketing their luxury. Perhaps Volvo is upping the market now as true luxury cars. They are very under-rated in today's society.

The rear lights look similar to the Honda CRV, but I blame honda for going swedish with their CRV. Anyway looks good, I ll wait to see it in real before I make my final judgement.

If I was about to buy a car in this segment, I think the new XC70 D5 aut is the one I would most likely buy.

I drove the old XC70 D5 2 days this summer together with the A6 Allroad 2.7TDI and I was surprised that I did fancy the Volvo the most.
Yes, one could feel that the Audi was a newer car and the interior had a better quality feel to it, but the D5 engine was pleasant, the ride in the Volvo was great although the absent of an air suspension and the Volvo seats has got to be the best in the world.

I don’t think that the new model is any less of a car then the old one so one XC70 for me plz…
I haven’t tried the new 3.2l engine yet, but what I have heard about it, it is not a great engine. I know even less about the T6 but I do know that the D5 is an engine that I really like. Great torque and great mileage.
