Toyota takes no. 1 spot from Lexus in reliability ranking

So last year Lexus was number one in Consumer Reports’ annual ‘predicted reliability’ rankings while Toyota was number 2. But this year Lexus has dropped from number one to number 5, while Toyota takes the number one spot from its own premium brand. Even Toyota’s Scion ranked number 3 on the list while Honda took number 2. What’s going on over at Lexus?

On the other hand, Nissan jumped from number 20 last year to number 8 this year, and for those of you who care about American cars, the only top ranked American brand was Ford’s Mercury brand that took number 10.

I'm shocked that the Lexus brand has been taken over by it's creator Toyota. Would people now look towards the Toyota Avalon since it's a smooth driving luxurious Toyota(it was a nice comfy car when i drove it). After all, wasn't that what Lexus was? Luxurious Toyota's. You Lexus fans will hate me for saying that I know it.

Anyways, that may not be the case today. Lexus has come a long way but if Lexus reliability is an issue why would someone pay that much more when they could have a top range Avalon? that's if they even liked the Avalon but just using it as an example.

I would like to see Lexus beat Toyota at least in reliability. After all, Lexus is the Toyota's luxury cars.

As technology in cars advance, complexity rises too. More things can go wrong.

It’s safe to say that there are a lot more complex gadgetry in an LS460 than a Camry.

This is one of the stupidest stories ever. What will be funny to watch is seeing more haters try to make a big deal about it like the first comment in this thread.

You have to admit, it's not good that they dropped four places. They weren't the biggest losers this year by any means (MINI was- they dropped 17 spots or something), but they could do better. It's interesting to note that Audi isn't far behind them.

But this is just PREDICTED reliability, not actual ratings from owners.

Technically, they didn't overtake Lexus because they're pretty much the same. But good for Toyota anyway.

Their No.1 because of the quality of fuel motor oil category and other parts like Toyota door handle - http://www.car-stuff.com/toyotadoorhandle.htm - the fact that local residents spend more on car care than residents in most other areas.
