Audi, MB and VW are ahead and have announced they plans last year. But like I always say, more the diesels the better.

Just a comment by someone that actualy owns a Diesel, a diesel has a lower consumption but it is way more expensive in everything else and by a long shot, don't get me wrong, i like it and that's the reason i have it since i run so many miles per year it is kind of cost effectiv but prepare because where i live diesel is about 20% cheaper than petrol and in US that doesn't hapen!!!
If you want some more info about how it gets more expensive just say something!!!

Yes, that is true, diesel is currently more expensive than gasoline. But the supply and demand will take over. As more diesels get on the market, the price of diesel will drop.

BMW was always No.1 diesel maker.By far most silent powerfull and less thirsty diesels.You can compare any other engines but(at least) in the diesel segment you simply can't.The 335D is stunning and it won 2005,2006,2007 International Engine of the year in it's category.Audi won only in '99 with it's 2.5L V6 because they didn't have a 3.0L diesel back then(in 99 the 3.0D from BMW won).Every single year,BMW wins international engine of the year in many categories,diesels and petrol while Audi never wins anything.
You'll probably think that what i say it's totally biased and maybe it sounds like that but wait until you experience both BMW and Audi diesels.They're uncomparable.Audi has a lot to learn and probably some day they will be on top in the diesel segment but today....no way.
Mercedes is the biggest looser.It's diesels sound like tractors.I've expected the new S to be different but it's not.Same horrible noise.

DiamondJim, it seams that you wrote something!!! LOL! everything is more expensive, first of all, the price for a TDI is higher than it's performance equivalent in petrol about 5000€ or 6500USD if you prefer, then you have maintenance, i have 2 Golfs, one diesel and the other one Petrol, the Petrol one when it goes to the shop i pay in average 200€, in the diesel i never paid less than 700€ and the highest that i had for a regular maintenace job was 1400€( 1800 USD ) and i think that it is rather expensive!!! Then we have the tires, they last about 3/5 of what my petrol car does, high torque is fun but it is not friendly for the tires!! All of this is making me think before buying my next car, that and the part that the diesels are quite fun with all the grunt in low RPM but after 2 or 3 months you are missing the revs hunger of a petrol engine!!! About the torque believe me it gets boring after a while, you have a big grunt that is always making the wheels spin but the traction control is constantly killing it and if you turn it off you just buy a new set of tires every 15K miles or less!!!

Where the hell do you come up with this figures?Where did you see a 5000€ higher price on a diesel?
A 745D costs 71.400€ and a 750i costs 68.480€.It's a 2900€ and it's the biggest you can find because that diesel is very expensive due to its performance.
An 330I costs 33.480€ and a 330D costs 34.480 so 1000€.
An Audi 3.0TDI costs 34.992€ and the 3.2FSI costs 34.218€ so it's a 700€ difference.In the majority of cases the difference is about 1000€ if not even less.Where do you come up with this figures???
On what car did you have a "highest regular maintenace job for 1400€" A Golf???? What did they change for that money?

Hi Kostin, are you ok in your litle world? First of all i'm sure that you heard about countries were you pay by engine volume, no? First of all, let me say to you that i don't own a C, what a pitty, i own 2 Golfs that probably have more mileage in each one of them than the ones you have ever made in your life! second, a litle bit of education, comparing 2 cars with similar performance figures like i said in my mail, the 2 golfs GT, diesel and petrol, in here since you pay taxes by volume you pay 29000€ for the petrol and 38500€ for the diesel one, satisfied? Before i decided to post in Autospies i decided that siceit was an American website i should do some research before i post something, i strongly sugest that you should do the same when you decide to criticise what you don't know!!! And by the way, you are comparing with similar engine volumes, i'm comparing similar performance figures so in most of the cars a smaller petrol engine can match a bigger diesel engine!!!

You said it yourself that it's an American website.Hypothetically speaking,maybe in US you don't pay taxes at all if you own a diesel.All countries have different taxes.The way you said it,sounded that a diesel is 5000€ more than a petrol engine.You did not mention any taxes!!! If you take a look at the latest diesels released you will see that they are close to petrol engines performance,they have less HP but a lot more torque.For example:the 745D accelerates from 0-100km/h in 6.6s while the 750i does it in 6.0s.Really don't you think they're close enough?
P.S.:You didn't answer to my question regarding the 1400€ "regular maintenance job" for a VW Golf.

Kostin, has you said they have more torque but don't you think that if it was the 745i with 6.8s from 0-100 will be a smaller gap tham for 750? I believe that you are from europe so you should know smaller engines and if you know it you can see that this gap in smaller engines is bigger!! If you compare the 2.0TFSI with 2.0tdi (same volume) in their highest specifications they have a huge gap betwen them, you have examples of this in almost every brand present in european market! About my coutry, well you're right, i live in a country ruled by morons that inspite beeing one of the lowest paying wages country have the 2nd or 3rd more expensive cars in the UE, as you can see for what you pay for a 330d i can only buy a golf tdi!!
About the maintenance, it hapens every 90.000km what for me is less than 2 years and it is the distribuction belt, only in pieces i pay 700€ and then i have the handwork to install it, to this you just had oil, diesel filter, oil filter, air filters, windows whipers and the rest of the handwork plus taxes and you get the nice sum of 1453€.

First of all,the 745i is discountinued.It was replaced by the 750i.Second,we were talking about BMW's intention to bring diesels to US and not Volkswagen's.BMW as it's rivals from the premium brands offer similar performance on diesels with about the same liter size.About the maintenance, you specified the most expensive job possible at a VW(Audi,Skoda,Seat) diesel:it contains:Distribution kit,water pump,brake pads,all the belts and rolls,all the filters,plus the regular oil change you do every 15K km.How much will that cost on you petrol powered Golf because I'm convinced it's not only 200€.This kind of job is required at every 90k Km.I would hardly name that a "regular maintenance job".I also had a Passat 1.9 TDI with a similar engine to yours so i know what you are talking about.The problem is that you compared a 90K job at a diesel with a regular maintenance job for a petrol engine,the same thing you did with the taxes.I just wanted you to clear that out so people in the US,not familiar with EU diesels receive the correct information.If i was an American i would understand the following: A European diesel is more expensive with 6500$ than a petrol engine and the maintenance cost is 1800$ on o diesel instead of 300$ on a petrol engine and in this case,why would anyone wanna buy a diesel?

ok, let's just get it clear, first of all i said the average price for petrol was 200 and that in the diesel i never paid less than 700 (read post), second if i had change water pump and brake pads this maintenace would be compreensible but no, i didn't change!! it was ONLY distribution kit like you said and filters and oil and some rings and whipers, not even lamps i changed more!!! If you think that this is the most expensive one, think again, the next one (1000Km away) will reach over 2000€, brake disks and pads and a valve thats broken, before i do the maintenance i ask for the price in 3 diferent oficial dealers and it had only a 100€ diference betwen the most expensive and the less one!! in the petrol one the maintenace equivalent to the 1453 one was nearly 400€!!! Big diference, no?
About diferences in performances, let's choose your car, C-class and not a model so expensive that no one cares if it pays 5000 more or less, the diference betwen the C200K and the C220CDI is huge, i'm speaking about performance figures and as you know, one is a 1.796L and the other one is 2.148L!! About buying a diesel, it still compensates in here since the diesel is 20% less expensive than petrol but that doesn't hape in US, in US the diesel is more expensive than petrol and as you know the modern diesel cars don't accept quite well low quality diesel so they have to buy premium diesel removing a big part of the benefit of buying a diesel, then you have the maintenance, of course us doesn't have such big taxes like in here so perhaps the price wouldn't be so high but if we go by proportions and you pay the double it will be another part of the benefit of buying a diesel that would fly away!! What i'm saying is that considering the prices PERHAPS it is not that nice deal for an American to buy a diesel!!!

Don't get me wrong, diesel is way more fuel eficient so i wish that all Americans could buy diesel, they would reduce the oil consumption of the country by a high percentage but in the end all the acounts made in each individual pocket they wouldn't be richer!!
If a petrol car was 1500 USD cheaper than the diesel equivalent it would take quite a thousands of miles for them to get the return of the money!! Don't forget also that both petrol and diesel are cheaper in US than in UE!!
