First Drive: 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster

You don't start this 640-horsepower V-12. You ignite it. The result is an eruption of mechanical and exhaust noises that'll peg your car lust-o-meter like it may not have been pegged in a while. And now, your ears will enjoy the aural assault that much more, as the LP640 (the updated, upgraded, and uprated version of the flagship Murcilago) is at last available in roadster form. Pity the poor Kenwood audio system. It won't get much use, because the tunes you'll want to hear come from just over your right shoulder.

The LP640 Roadster combines the LP640 coupe's technical and design updates with the al fresco style of the previous Murcilago Roadster. The angular body basics are the same, but the front and rear ends get a nip/tuck; that front spoiler could be dangerous to one's shins. The rockers also are bladelike, and the side scoops are asymmetrical. The driver-side intake houses an oil cooler, while the opposite one is shaped differently and is vestigial. Wheel and taillight designs are new, as are the slats over the engine and a host of other details. Lambo's design studio has freshened up the cabin, interior materials, and electronics....continued

Are you kidding?? It is not a Volkswagen. Have you seen one or heard one of these up close?? Lamborghini is owned by Audi. In case you didn't realize - Lamborghini would have gone bankrupt if Audi didn't buy them. While Audi is owned by VW - it is Audi that is the real leader of the group. That is why there is a post from earlier today about "VW learning from Audi". As for this car - I haven't seen the Roadster on the street but I've seen the coupe. I saw a yellow one on Sedgewick Ave. in the Bronx. That thing made such a beautiful noise - and it's really menacing to face that car and have it coming you your direction. I know why Lamborghini's and such are called "exotics". Right here in the Bronx I've also gotten to see a Ferrari Enzo on Boston Road (at the Westchester border) and a Porsche Carrera GT on the Cross Bronx Expressway. I've even seen a Maybach off of Jerome Ave. - but that didn't excite me - it looks like an S-Class. Still I must say the best looking car I've seen driven in the street (and I've only seen two - one in Manhattan and one in Westchester) is the Maserati Quattroporte.

Lamborghini depends on audi as a finacial supporting no more,but lambor. will still that italian car,it will still has its beautiful look,and still that world car.

First off, the poster spelled Murcielago wrong.

Anyways, the car looks stunning. It's owned by Audi but regardless, it is many levels above it's parent company in terms of engineering. The sound and design is like no other, very traditional Lamborghini design with an abstract look.

The roadster looks hot and if one was to say it's just a VW, at least say it's just an "AUDI". Don't degrade Lamborghini by saying it's the brand for the mass because it's not even close =P.

The sounds these vehicles make is amazing. Hearing one echo in the street will give you goosebumps. The only car I heard make a more beautiful rumble was back in 2000 I saw Ice-T in Manhattan on w. 57th Street driving the previous generation Ferrari 456GT. That thing made such a rumble that the whole street turned to see what was coming. It was amazing.

Ha ha you know I'm not an Audi-hater. If anything I'm a Lexus hater due to all Lexus fans not respecting the Germans as automotive innovators thinking they are the best. But that's another topic for another day to discuss and flame war over.

Anyways, the Murcielago is a masterpiece. Plain and simple regardless of who owns it or engineered it. :)

The LP640 Roadster is one of the best looking cars out there. If you've seen a Murcielago Roadster at high speeds with its "wings" out, you'll know what I'm talking about.
