Cadillac to Debut GM's Powerful New V-6 Clean Diesel Engine

General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) unveiled a new 2.9-liter V-6 turbo-diesel engine that features state-of-the-art injection and combustion technology for minimum emissions and maximum performance.

The new engine (184 kW/250 hp) will be mainly sold in Europe and makes its debut at the Geneva Motor Show (March 8-18). Its first production application is scheduled for 2009 in the new Cadillac CTS.

"We expect the V-6 diesel to be highly competitive in the European luxury segment," said Jim Taylor, Cadillac General Manager. "With its excellent low-end torque and its high power output, it is a great fit with Cadillac's performance-oriented brand character."

Wow! Although a Caddy fan and I hope for the best from this top "AMERICAN" brand, I totally didnt see this one coming. I guess they really are trying hard to come back as a top global brand. I really hope they do offer this in America...

Sounds like a serious engine for a brand that really wants to be serious competition globally. I can see this engine in every model Cadillac has...even the Escalade. Low-end torque of 550 Nm (406 lb.-ft.) beginning at 2000 rpm is excellent.

So...what are the fuel consumption ratings? Hell, it doesn't matter. I want one today.

a CTS 3.6 is about 30000 pounds here. that's too much as a 330i saloon is also 29000. That does include a tax of 17.5 percent though. take it off and the prices come down to 24500-ish.
The CTS does have lots of equpiment, but I find it cramped in the back and with an fairly unsophisticated interior. The new one should solve some of those problems.

Well, it has the specs on paper but no fuel consumption figures.
