New 4-Door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited-Poor man's G-Class?

New 4-Door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited-Poor man's G-Class?
So here's the concept: Come up with a more-comfortable Jeep Wrangler. One you can drive when you have a family, one that will give Jeep a chance to compete with the host of other midsize SUVs, but one that won't surrender Wrangler's off-road credibility.

Hey, how about more room, more comfort, more power, more stuff? And four doors instead of two?

More fuel efficiency and lower emissions as well? The wrangler's 4.0 puts out more CO2 than an SL 55 amg or ML 550.

They do need to revisit that weak engine. Maybe get a BluTEC diesel in there or something. Everything else about the new Wrangler Unlimited is a homerun though.

No, it's not the poor man's G-Class because they aren't even in the same Class! I don't think there is anyone crazy enough to pit them against another and see which one comes out the winner.

We were referring to the look of the truck, not performance/luxury.

Agent001, that was a stupid, baseless title.

Why?

You never cease to provoke some of the posters on this site...

Look at the photo I just placed in the article and tell me it does not look similar to a G-Class...

They're both boxes on wheels.

It doesn't mean they're anything alike in any other respect.

That's like saying the 5 Series and E-Class are both sedans, but one's cheaper, so the 5 is the "poor-man's" E-Class?

Mark,

GGG!!! You are so stupid!

Have you ever heard the term VW is a poorman's Porsha?

read and pay attention carfully. Look at it attentesively, do you see any design resemblance to the G? No let me make it easier for you look towards the back. And who is the parent of the Jeep Wrangler??

I am waiting to get one as soon as the preowneds are available.

I have had 3 wranglers and used to go to Camp Jeep, but 5 years ago I got married and has a family so I had to stay away from Wranglers, but now that they have the 4dr, I can't wait to get one.

P.S.
I don't want to buy it brand new, not because I can't afford, but because the value of American cars that go down quickly, so I atleast want to wait to see if this one is any better.

So why not call the standard 2-door Wrangler, a "Poor Man's G-class with 2 doors" ?

You're really stretching with the headline. So adding another 2 doors to an otherwise classic that's been around since World War II makes it a G-class wanna be? These 2 cars have nothing in common other than 4x4 and 4 doors. So what happens if they add 2 more doors to the Toyota FJ Cruiser?

RupertRupert - 3/9/2007 3:39:56 PM

it would have 6 doors?

The GL is the base for the Commander and the ML is the base for the GC, so I guess those aren't "real SUVs" either, huh?

oh you mean real SUVs have diesel engines.
190hp, pathetic. Get a GC 3.0 CRD with 215 hp and 376lb/ft of torque.

Actually I've seen rock crawlers w/ fully independent coil over suspension(watch some of the extreme custom rock crawlers) and have the ability to fully lock the diffs. In addition to really low gear ratios.

fyi

Yeah, this doesn't even make sense to compare the two. Just because DaimlerBenz produces both units doesn't mean you can compare them. People go too far.
