Toyota offers $1,500 rebates on 2007 Tundra

Toyota offers $1,500 rebates on 2007 Tundra
Seems like Toyota is really dedicated to beat GM and Ford in the 4×4 market. After spending $3 billion on the launch for the 2007 Toyota Tundra, Toyota is now offering a $1,500 rebate on the 4×4, just one month after it went on sale. Toyota is saying that the rebate is mostly due to the comeptition they are receiving from GM and Ford.

The rebate is being offered in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Caroline and South Carolina. Others are offering anywhere from $250 - $1,000.

They need to offer more than that because that truck looks horrible!! It just says, "Oops. Hey we tried." If I was living in Texas I be weak that this truck was representing TX style. The ext. is funny looking, not manly at all. And the interior was designed by a bunch of 1st time Auto CAD students from the 2001 Space Odyssey Space Camp. I thought I'd like it if I saw it in person. Wrong!!! If you own a older Tundra, keep it. Toyota messed up and now their rebating a brand new product. When have they ever done that? History in the making.

PS And I'm a loyal Toyota fan. Which makes it worse.

I agree with you on the interior. Cheap shiny plastic for days! I'm warming up to the exterior design though. Can't argue with the new 5.7L though. It's a beast!

The Tundra is one ugly truck.

They could offer it with a 50% discount and they'd still have problems selling it to the typical American truck buyer.

It's still damn ugly.
Looks like a frog that ate too much.

I love this truck, I have defended it tirelessly. But I can also admit when Toyota makes a mistake, especially when the mistake doesnt affect my purchasing. I said it when the pricing came ot, it was a mistake to price the base Tundra so high. Most non-business consumers, myself included (and I have owned trucks in the past), dont buy the base version. But for those who do, especially businesses, price has got to be a major factor. All the rest of the models have competitive pricing, but not the stripper model. So Toyota sees the error of their ways. Maybe the 2008 will come in at a lower price. Better that than getting people hooked on incentives like the Big 2.

My 2005 Tundra rocked!!! This one is totally whack. I just read that GM is sellin their new p/u hand over fist(w/ some incentive help I bet but none the less). I was just at a dealership yesterday changing the oil on my 07 RAV when I noticed how many Tundras they had vs RAV4s. They can't keep RAVs in stock but I'm sure they'll have a surplus of Tundras.

THAT'S an excuse!

I can't imagine why I don't think you'd say that about a truck from a different brand not selling well?

It would take a lot more than $1,500. discount to sway me into a Tundra! (How about matching the chevs warrantee!) And I am a toyota guy~! The chev is way better! This thing couldn't out wheel a corola! Impressive engine in a lousy truck!

Don't need a long warranty when you build quality stuff I guess. It's sad that the only way Domestics can compete is by lengthening their warranties. No matter, I still don't like the Tundra. Give it a 200K mile warranty and I still wouldn't own one.

No, the point still came across.

What does BMW have to do with this?

Your excuse was pathetic and stupid.

If its priced too high then they should change the base price.

The marketing department sets the pricing based on competitive analysis.
The sales department sets the rebates and discounts based on what sells or doesn't sell. Everyone knows rebates are offered to blow out overstocks, and usually appear in late summer to make room for new models.

rebates in the spring say: "this model is a loser ... relative to what the marketing guys projected for sales uptake".
Which means its not a great vehicle OR marketing was too optimistic about the ability of a Toyota badge to steal sales from Ford and Chevy.

I suspect that Toyota is discovering that most car buyers aren't that loyal (unlike us fanatics on AutoSpies) but pickup truck buyers are often insanely brand loyal, regardless of the issues with their favourite brand's offerings.

Don't buy the crew cab Tacoma. That's another ugly duckling. Has anybody seen a crew cab long bed version of the Tacoma? Oh my gosh!!! And somebody actually paid for that.

Now the Tacoma other than the body flex is a class leading product. The Frontier is the only one thats even comparable. But the Tundra is not at the head of the class so it will need incentives giving the price difference between it and better products.

Rebates were part of the tundra's marketing plan from the get-go because they know that shoppers in this segment have been spoiled by and expect big incentives when buying a truck, so they priced it higher in order to offset that.

for those of you who haven't seen the tundra in person, photos don't do it justice. the car looks quite a bit better in person.

that said, as much as i've said to myself i'd never buy a domestic vehicle, i'd get the chevy or GMC for the simple reason that the interiors are really nice and well executed, better than the tundras.
