Rolls-Royce finalizes small car for 2010
Rolls-Royce CEO, Ian Robertson, confirmed at the Geneva Motor Show that a small car design was approved last month. The car will be built under the Phantom badge and will be priced between $263,000 and $394,000. It may be small but still expensive.

However, the BMW ultimate-luxury auto maker expects to double annual production to 1,600 cars after adding a smaller car to its lineup in 2010.

Dude, Rolls Royce making a small car has absolutely nothing to do with Lexus. Lexus is a mass produced carand Rolls is a largely hand built fine motorcar for the absolute upper echelon of the market. Don't kid yourself that Lexus presently plays in this arena- it doesn't.

it's people like Lexusmaniac that give the normal lexus fans a bad name.

And seriously Lexusmaniac, if you believe what you are saying, you need your head checked. Lexus rivals Acura, Infiniti, Cadillac, Lincoln, Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz.
Not the 3 oldest, most expensive, most prestigious and best car makers in the world.
I might as well say Honda rivals Pagani as they both make cars with engines in the back.

Are you high on crack? Lexus does not compare to these iconic high-end luxury cars. It barely competes with Infiniti. Lexus has only been around 17 years. They still have a lot of growing up to do.

You are sadly mistaken.

I drive a Mercedes, Lexus, AND an Audi. One of each from the "flame wars." No POS Citroen though. Sorry.

Lexus in the line with the others ?? Haha, that's soo funny and STUPID. Hopefully you don't really believe it, you just say it for the fun of having some negative feedback.
Why settle for LExus only? Why don't you place Toyota also, with the other 3 car makers. IT's reliable.

LexusManiac,

It's funny how you try to sneak in Lexus onto that elite list of auto makers. Seriously get it through your thick skull that Lexus is nothing compared to that ultra luxury market. It may be popular in the US but in the world of luxury cars it's dominated by the Europeans. Europeans know luxury, Lexus just followed.

Not saying Lexus imitates now but they sure aren't innovators if you look back in history of luxury saloons. I don't know where you got that strange idea of a Lexus being in contention against a Phantom. You put two side by side the Lexus will be nothing.

If anything the looks of an S-Class is closer to an ultra luxury car especially with the S600 or S65. LexusManiac my friend when you ask the majority of consumers in this world what brand to them is prestige usually Rolls Royce, Bentley, and to those who know the brand Maybach, those are usually the companies. Then there is Mercedes Benz, a marque name embedded as a top notch luxury car maker underneath the chauffeur driven segment. BMW and Audi follow very very closely behind in name recognition.

Sorry to break it to ya kiddo. You got - 17 and counting de-boosts. Doesn't it show you something?

We are scared of nothing especially not Lexus. Just because Jeremy Clarkson says it's comparable to the elite brand does not mean it is in the same class. What he really meant for the options and the price, the Lexus LS is much cheaper but still offering similar features. It does not mean it's the same class of cars.

I'm sure Jeremy sparked some hope for you Lexus fans out there who believe the LS is better than the S-Class, A8, and the BMW 7 series. You guys need to learn the facts and learn some history because Lexus does not have enough years behind them to leap ahead of it's actual competition.

Just because it has the Maybach like seats in the rear it's an ultra luxury sedan? I don't think so. You also think Jeremy Clarkson's credibility is good when he gives the RX-8 credit when it's got many problems? Jeremy credited the 300C as well as put it down in shame when he said it was rubbish to drive but for the price you pay nothing can have much luxury and room.

You shouldn't believe what Jeremy says all the time. He may like the feel of the ride but it is certainly no where close to being Rolls Royce, Bentley, and Maybach. You seriously believe Lexus came up with that extended model with those seats? Be real, they obviously got it from the Maybach. Much like in the 90's there's a line drawn between innovators and imitators.

I like the IS and GS but i don't like fans like you who jump too far ahead thinking the brand is for the elite. It's a mass produced car my friend. You have to get it thru your head. As nice as the LS is the materials used are not as good as ultra luxury saloons. Only in the US is Lexus the most popular, always remember that. US does not mean world wide.

I ain't jealous of Lexus. Why be jealous of Lexus when Mercedes my brand of choice is the one being imitated.

on wikipedia it states:

"Lexus directly competes with such luxury brands as Europe's Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Saab, and Volvo; the U.S.’ Cadillac and Lincoln, and Japanese brands Acura, and Infiniti."

Like I said, JEALOUS OF NOTHING & SCARED OF NOTHING!. Just because it's the top luxury brand seller in the US it doesn't mean it can conquer the world. Just keep in mind that Lexus pricing is more affordable than it's competition. In other words someone who may be more tight on funds may go for a Lexus rather than a BMW or a Mercedes. It's all marketing. Marketing in which got you to believe it's the best in the world.

And BTW, you act like you're not the same way.

You have such an elitist attitude... like the rest of them. For the most part.

You don't think that you'd disagree if Jeremy Clarkson said he loved a German car, and fall in love with him if he said he liked a Lexus?

If you claim that you'd agree with him either way, you're just lying. Everything is based on preference; we (as in the German fans) are not the only ones guilty. You are just as much.

Rolls Royce will never justify an answer to certain manufacturers. They are offended to hear they were compared to a Bently! They say they are pleased that Lexus finally makes a car with the quality and craftsman of a Rolls Royce cup holder!

Oh! great now he copying me phase " Lexus For Life" oh! brother. Just to make myself clear I don't know who this Lexusmaniac is Okay? But come on...guys/girls his comments are hilarious and sometime are true.

As for prestigious and heritage Lexus definitely does NOT have it like the RR, Bentley, or Maybach.

But as far technology, realiability, styling, engineering and styling the Lexus LS600 hl, I think it on par with the Maybach, RR and the Bentley.

In tech, it exceeds the RR and is on par with Conti GT and Maybach.

Style is subjective... but IMO it's not even close. I'm not hating- but with the Bentley and R-R, you get what you pay for. Those cars just have about 20X more presence than any ol' LS460.

Reliability is a no-brainer. Of COURSE it will have better reliability. But that's not what ultra-luxury car buyers care about.

Engineering. Don't even go there. Any car that's $150-350K will have better engineering than the LS. Again, that's not hating. It's true. You're just a bit disillusioned.

You mentioned styling twice.

Lexus is living in a different zip code when it comes to people with real dollars. Nice car for sure, but if you have money or come into vast amounts of it i can assure you the first place you don't go is to a Lexus dealer when you can have the other pure elite brands it is all about status when you have the big, big, bucks.

The Lambo, Ferrari and Maybach all cost hundred of thousand of dollars but Lexus still has better realibility. And that the fact, you know it. Just because it cost a couple of hundred thousand does not make it trouble free.

Lambo, Bentley, Maybach, Aston Martin and the Ferrari are known for to have prestige. Those that own them want to have the elite status.

They are "NOT" known for realibility and that the fact. S4, the only person that is disillusioned here is you not me. I talking about reliability here not prestige or hertitage.

And for those of you who says that realibility does not matter to them, yeah....whatever. If I was going to buy a Lambo Gallardo, that thing better not break down. Because I would to speed my time driving it " NOT" in the repair shop.

I'm sure all the car mention above has good realibility but not good as the Lexus brand.

Fact: 80% of all Bentleys EVER made are still one the road.

Believe it or not this information was provided to me by the literature given to me the last time I was at the Rolls Royce dealership. Now, that statistic does not directly translate into reliability necessarily, but it does provide insight into the value of the name of that vehicle, and what is done in order to maintain it. In addition, these cars don't "trickle down"

I can guarantee when Lexus is as old as Bentley that number will be way less: Lexus trickles down to hoi polloi: I see tons of these highschoolers in their late model ghettoed out chrome rimmed LS, GS and ES all the time.

The difference is this: A Lexus with a plastic dash is normal: a Rolls Royce with a plastic dash is a sin against nature and an abomination.

That has to be the coolest car name ever.
