Forbes Lists Best SUVs for 2007

Forbes has listed what they consider are the "Best" SUVs for 2007. Not much in the way of how they went about determining the Best, but for American automobiles they chose the Escalade, and for the imports, they selected the Mercedes GL. They also made a mention of the yet-to-come-to-market Spyker D12.

It's tough to say what cars were nominated, but based on the Gallery and all the sub categories, it seems all SUVs were considered:
  • Incoming King of SUVs: Spkyer D12
  • Best Redesign SUV: Acura MDX
  • Most Elegant SUV: Land Rover Range Rover (non-sport)
  • Best American SUV: Cadillac Escalade
  • Best High-Performance SUV: Porsche Cayenne Turbo
  • Best Escalade Alternative SUV: Mercedes-Benz GL
  • Best Reason to Buy GM Stock: Buick Enclave
  • Best Family-Friendly SUV: Honda Pilot
  • Best Green SUV: Lexus RX Hybrid
  • Coolest High-Tech SUV: Acura RDX
* AutoSpies Disclaimer: Please talk with your financial advisor before considering purchasing GM stock based on Enclave sales.

This list isn't even realistic. RDX??? Enclave??? How in the world do they make the list?

Actually dathrilla (whatever that means) bulldogz has a very valid point if you know anything about this site and the people that are on it.

The same thing can be said for Consumer Reports...and CNET, etc... I can go on and on.

You need to lighten up.

Hell, I thought that was the good thing about the list. They didn't include the Navigator...Man, they've really made that thing ugly. I used to think the Nav was beautiful...now it's ugly as hell...and the mkx or whatever..isn't that a soft drink? Ford/Lincoln....please get rid of those ugly grills.

Funny how GM vehicles that made the list are only for categories exclusive to domestic vehicles.

LOL!

I didn't even read that part.

It's the only truck I agree with on the list.

The GL has opened to unanimously raving reviews. I have yet to drive one, though.

I want to add to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo’s accolades:

- Ugliest SUV on planet Earth.
- Most ridiculously priced SUV on planet Earth.

formula1 guy: Cayenne is really ugly; the L SUV is almost there, almost "the ugliest" but is more reliable. Right? And that is the only think that "counts" with the people on this website. So who care if it's ugly or not? Others than me and formula1.

The GX is terrible. The RX is inoffensive, and I don't think the LX is a bad-looking vehicle.

In case you weren't aware, "ugly" is a matter of your own personal taste. If this really is going to become a battle of the "ugliest SUV," then the Q7 takes the cake.

MB's SUV's piss all over whatever Toyota can come up with...and i mean TOYOTA! Lexus doesn't have a single original SUV in their lineup. RX = Highlander, GX = 4Runner, LX = Landcruiser. YAWN YAWN and DOUBLE YAWN!

LexusManiac,

"Lexus SUVS are class leading BlueDork! You are just hating on Lexus because you know the Landcruiser is a legend. Just wait until TRD tunes it. The X5 and Benz ML AMGs will be dead meat!"

--------
I never knew that the Landcruiser was a Lexus. TRD? Toyota Racing Development for a Lexus? I thought it was "F" : ). So how does a Toyota take on an X5 or an ML(nevermind the AMG)?

Are you implying that your beloved Lexus is a rebadged Toyota? It's funny how you Lexus boys always say Lexus are not rebadged Toyota's anymore but here you have a 'lexus maniac' say something so stupid.

On another note, it's a totally different class beef ball, The X5 and ML is a different range than the Landcruiser. Who cares about TRD and why would they TRD a Lexus?. What is it a sports car utility vehicle? you crack me up good!!.

The MDX redesign is fine. But they totally forgot about the Q7, X5. As for the RDX it shouldn't be apart of this list.

2nd best selling Luxury SUV in America! Only the crappy RX beats it, but that's just a Toyota Highlander in disguise.

BTW, the MDX is not based off the Odyssey or Pilot or Accord. It's got its own platform. And it came before all those aformentioned cars, so why would Acura want to design their new bench mark luxury SUV on an old platform?

I, too, have noticed a Q7 surge. They weren't off to a quick start, but I guess all the advertising has helped. There are plenty of dealers who have them, but they're hard to keep in stock.

MDX, unfortunately, I see a lot of, also. I fancy it to look like a cow-catcher from the front. Look at the contrived grille!

X5 and GL are nice, and GL is especially popular around my parts. The LX470 was "THE" big SUV to have before the GL450 came out... but the prestige of the three-pointed star seems to thrust all others aside. X5 is selling well, too.

dathrilla:

I concur with you completely, and not just as a fellow American, but also upon an intellectual level and one considerate of editorial accuracy and responsibility. These Euro intoxicants tend to rub me the wrong way, too, especially the juvenile, repugnant ones that act like they have a proprietary claim upon sophisticated vehicular ownership simply because they cannot get over their overly enamored euphoria with their new (barely afforded) Euro toy that helps supplement their lacking inner self-esteem.

If it’s built in Europe, they falsely conclude, it’s a wonder machine. If it’s built in America, it’s deficient like all things American. The overwhelming majority of them know little of what they’re talking about while they attempt to broadcast their alleged advanced perspectives. In truth, what they broadcast is only revealing of their woeful knowledge gaps in general and their fetishes with their personal toys in particular.

TRD doesn't even tune stock Toyotas. They're only for the racers.

He's sadly mistaken.
